Archie Goodwin did a run on Wolverine 17-23 that was pretty great.
Starts off street level in Madripoor and ends up w. a Celestial level threat several countries away. Introduced La Bandera.
Barry Windsor Smith's WEAPON X
Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's "Wolverine"
Paul Jenkins' "Origin"
Uncanny X-Men #133 -- aka Wolverine versus the Hellfire Club, aka Wolverine becomes a BAMF, aka "Now, it's my turn!"
and
last and best of all,
LOGAN (screenplay by Scott Frank, James Mangold, Michael Green), directed by James Mangold, starring Hugh Jackman. The definitive Wolverine story.
Not only my favorite Wolverine story but one of my favorite Marvel stories of all time is Wolverine #102 from June 1996. It is without a doubt the best story that Larry Hama has ever done.
This Post Contains No Artificial Intelligence. It Contains No Human Intelligence Either.
I really enjoyed
Public Enemy by Millar it's pure balls to the walls Wolvie vs Gorgon
But if you want a more humorous and caring side I love Wolverine and The X-Men
Uncanny X-Men #205
Uncanny X-Men #256-258
Uncanny X-Men #268
So I just read Enemy of The State again for the first time since it probably came out. Still great stuff and such a solid story. The final showdown with Gorgon is superb.
Uncanny 205 is one of my favourite X-Men issues period...my other favourite Wolvie stories are that annual where they fought Horde (I wanna say Uncanny #11?), the first Genosha story where he and Rogue were powerless, and the stuff with Jubilee after the Reavers crucified him.
The first Weapon X story in MCP is rightly a classic too.
It involves noseless Wolverine, two issues after the failed attempt by Genesis to re-bond adamantium to his skeleton (in Wolverine #100); and also Elektra, a drug dealer and the drug dealer’s mother.
I don’t remember it as anything groundbreaking or amazing personally. But perhaps that’s because I couldn’t get beyond how awful noseless Wolverine was.
Gonna repeat this:
I just read BWS's Weapon X in it's entirety. Wow! TAS did a fair rendition for a kid's cartoon, but this original was amazing in its visceral violence and visual storytelling. I think only a writer-artist like BWS could achieve this feat. How dare Fox center their entire X-Men franchise around Wolverine and yet so utterly fail in translating this to screen?
Let the flames destroy all but that which is pure and true!
