Default Jason Todd: Red Hood Outlaw #50 v. Three Jokers #3

I noticed that this week we saw Jason pop up in two very different takes on Jason Todd in two concluding issues: RHaO #50 and Three Jokers #3. I wanna see what side of the spectrum people are on this character. how do they compare? where do you fall? which did you enjoy more? all that stuff.
THE SIGNAL (Duke Thomas) is DC's secret shonen protagonist so I made him a fandom wiki

also, check out "The Signal Tape" a Duke Thomas fan project.

    currently following:
    • DC: Red Hood: The Hill
    • Marvel: TBD
    • Manga (Shonen/Seinen): One Piece, My Hero, Dandadan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, Reincarnation of The Veteran Soldier, Oblivion Rouge, ORDEAL, The Breaker: Eternal Force

    RHO#50 by a country mile.

I've said it before. but Three Jokers depicts a fundamentally wrong understanding of Jason character. Through all media, the thing that has remained consistent about Jason is that he's strong-headed. stubborn and completely committed to his own ideals. he might need a push and support from someone every now and then but ultimately, the actions that he takes are his own choices. He would never throw away his own identity just to please someone else. If that were the case, he would never become the Red Hood and butted heads with Bruce in the first place. Nor he would've died, as matter of fact.

On the other hand, RHO#50 depicts the culmination of 9 years of character growth, showing a Jason that has finally let go of his rage and trust issues. Someone that has moved on from what happened to him and has found a new meaning of life through the people he met over the years, he knows and accepts he's broken at in a deep, emotional level, but he's working to improve himself for his own sake, not Bruce's or anyone else.

Difficult question, love the three Jokers as history shows things that are overlooked, trauma, love that Barbara at one point wanted to help Jason, the kiss was a nuisance but hey it was just a kiss. I hated seeing Jason pining for Barbara, it was a good drama.
Hate the way it all wraps up in Red Hood Outlaw, everything was so fast, so messy, I wish Lobdell would stop wasting time and give us a well done romance between Jason and Artemis (illustrated by Dexter uuuf a dream) the Outlaws boys a senseless break, just like Artemis "#% & (Jason told him he LOVED her !!!!! Ma Gunn behaving like a witch, hell is her grandmother. Willis still all unfinished.
However, I liked Jason's development, there was maturity and growth. Winick did an impeccable job on Lost Days and Lobdell has been the best thing that happened to Jason after Winick, he just never got things done.
I am so sad about the end of the series that I do not know if I will buy something from DC again, I confess that I only consume DC for Jason, his other characters do not interest me, they are good, but I prefer Marvel. If DC doesn't give me an incentive to do better with Jason, I'm done with them.
I clarify this is my feeling, very personal.

the problem is that a book is the character's book written by someone who has been telling a growth story for a decade. the other book is by someone who barely knows the character other than some specific stories.

if it were up to me i wouldn't make jason go back to gotham i should go somewhere else and have adventures fighting killer robots and demons

What a weird thread and comparison.

RHATO is Jason's story that has been written by the same writer for over 9 years with loyal fans. TTJ is a mini series and it's a Batman story.

It would be better to compare Jason's appearance in TTJ with TNAC than RHATO.

    spoilers:
Neither, because Jason arguably was most interesting with Artemis and Bizarro. Jason and Barbara is stupid and kind of gross. This week pretty much torpedoed my interest in Jason Todd, so I'm going to take the book off my pull list unless the next issue (which I'm giving a shot) is really interesting.

I will say that Red Hood did feel like it had more going on... which it should, given it's the culmination of a long run on the character.

The format might be different but both stories deal with the same themes, reaching two completely different conclusions. And let's not forget that Three Jokers was intended to be in continuity and both Fabok and Johns said multiple times (I asked Fabok personally even) that they would take I to account all the stories written with Jason when crafting Three Jokers.

The New Adventures Continued (ended recently, with its own rather lackluster UTRH storyline).

    Easy choice, RHO#50 for me.
