X Of Swords: Stasis [01] Not the best SPOILERS

Sorry guys and gals I just wanted a thread so we could discuss the issue.

Obviously Asrar and Larraz art is gorgeous.

Saturnyne sends emissaries to each location of Otherworld to invite them to the contest.

There are 8 and there is a vote done. Someone can explain this to me. I think they were voting on open borders.

This issue is the sword bearers of Arrako collecting their squad. This was done much quicker than the Krakoans. All done in one issue. They all have their swords by the end of the issue. It was nice to see the characterizations of each.

The Krakoans get transported to the Starlight Citadel and Brian/Storm/Betsy warn to not trust Saturnye. She is manipulation at its best and they know that they are just pawns in her game.

Saturnyne lets them know their quarters are ready and that at supper time they will meet there opponents.

When they each get to their rooms they have tarot cards placed there and they each react differently to them.

Apocalypse gets pissed and confronts Saturnyne about his and she's basically like its just a card Apoc chill out.

She says she doesnt have time for his shenanigans and she has a meeting to go to and as they are walking. Apoc finally sees Annihalation is the next meeting.

The big reveal at the end is what everyone has already known, that is Genesis, and its alluded that she took the helmet or mask of Amenth because duh survival of the fittest.

So I might be right after all, each of the next ten titles will be one fight each....

This is just a gathering of the Arakko team, a warm-up issue for the fights and not the real fight which actually starts next month.

I love the building of these new characters. I find them so very interesting and I'm wanting to learn more about them.
The glimpses of all the kingdoms makes me salivate and I cannot wait for this dinner with all the champions!

Ogun's card showed nothing.

Storm's card was death.

Wolverine's was strength.

Apoc got the lovers.

Brian got the Knight of Pentacles.

Magik got the Page of Wands.

Cable got the Fool.

Doug got the Two of Cups.

and Betsy got the worst card: 9 of Swords.

Also Storm fans don't take them literally. They each have different meaning which you will find out when you read it.

The Fury was a super hero killer created by the Mad Jim Jaspers Of another reality that killed Brian Braddock easily. This is pretty deep Marvel UK nonsense, but the guys you see in the Everforge basically all look like The Fury.

Anyway, I loved this issue.

I loved the fast pacing of the gathering of the Arrakii swordbearers. I don't know how to *fix* the pacing issues of X of Swords because I've honestly enjoyed each issue, but the central narrative still suffered IMO. I suppose I really prefer the tempo of abbreviated story beats that are cut in-between other running threads versus one issue devoted to one "scene".

Back to X of Swords: Stasis, I think these new characters are the most fascinating new faces we've seen in the past 2+ decades. I love their designs, the nuggets of intrigue...there is just a lot to chew on and be excited for. I love how high fantasy this story is, elevated by the brilliance of Pepe Larraz, Mahmud Asrar, and Marte Gracia, and how the complicated lore both puzzles me and makes me excited to go back to previous issues to get the story straight.

Maybe Redroot will take his place on Krakoa since they basically have the same job. It was sad to see Arakko and how she’s been lied to that she’d be reunited with Krakoa after sending a piece of herself. They are reluctant champions.

Agreed. Redroot had little interest in being involved but Arakko was upset. I'd kinda like to see Arakko get some revenge for being lied to through Redroot.

Yes, it looks like Bei without her helmet to me. Although, that could be a misdirect, Doug has a lot in common with Redroot, it could be her.

It was interesting seeing more of the Arakki swordbearers, they aren't as unified as Krakoa. I can see White Sword and Redroot both switching sides.
