If he genuinely believes that genies/djinns exist, why wouldn't he believe it's a real lamp?

Eh, he got a lamp and a life's lesson out of the deal. Not so bad.

I might buy the movie prop for that much, even without a genie.

But not $41,600 (what the article says).

A majority of humans still believe in praying to magic sky gods so yes they are this gullible.

This probably wasn't supposed to become a religious discussion thread, but looks like it's bound to happen.

A degree doesn't decide someone is immune to gullibility, it certifies that said individual is skilled in a certain field. And scammers still exist as they have existed since millenniums.

Considering 70 Americans fell for a obvious and not very smart con man, apparently so.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Well i guess it's possibly because most alien races do not believe in magic.

The "Jesus Hustle" is the best scam going. Those multi-millionaire TV preachers have got tremendous game. I don't hate them at all. They get idiot Cross-Humpers to PayPal them money right to their accounts.

If you can pull steady money from Christo-Fascists every week then I can only respect the game.
