According to BleedingCool, Pam Lifford is the one who censored Batman Damned and wiped out Batman's dick from the book.

Looks like Javins was the one they decided to keep and Wells was the one they decided to let go. God man, I wish Javins luck because DC is a shell of itself right now.

All that fuss over the Batpenis for a story that was dreadful. Damned was a terrible book, what they were thinking picking that to launch BL with I’ll never know.

I remember seeing stories in the 80s with naked male characters that didn’t suffer any for not showing their penis.

Because it was BATMAN and for so long anything done with Batman got a free pass because he is popular and "sells".

If that was Lobo or Hitman or Preacher (some you would EXPECT to see frontal nudity)-no one would care.

I read Savage Dragon-Lifford would fall out if she read that book from issues 193-now.

If she did all that trying to think about kids-I got some bad news for her. Stuff like that is already in some books aimed at tweeners and teens.

I think Batpenis should have gotten its own mini-series.

In seriousness, I do get it. The Damned nudity wasn’t strictly necessary but was in an adult-oriented book on a mature readers label and was not the main series. I didn’t see it as that big of a deal at the time.

Savage Dragon, however, devolved into complete pornography that I have absolutely no interest in seeing. If the aim is to prevent Batman from going down a slippery slope to where Savage Dragon went, I understand wanting to stop that.
