It's so cute and a time in the Hellboy mythos that hasn't really been explored.
I think they prefer doing miniseries that fit a TPB nowadays. I'm sure we'll see many more Young Hellboy stories in the future.

    I certainly hope so.

A lot of exposition dumped on us here but over all the energy was really fantastic and the art and coloring are seriously top notch. This is definitely the best Hellboy has been in a long time.

It's fun, and they are certainly hitting a lot of pulp tropes. The "Ape Girl" pun is a cute touch. I can't criticize the art, it is well done. I am just not a fan of the cartoony, child friendly style.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Seems like the collected edition will be... hardcover. It's great, because HC is usually better quality than trade paperbacks, but it's an unusual move from Dark Horse. Almost everything related to the Hellboy universe gets released in TPB first, unless it's an original graphic novel.

For something like this (a four-issue series), it may make more sense to go with a hardcover version first. I also don't know how much cost difference it would be between a hardcover and tpb collection for a story of this length. (FWIW, the The Black Beetle: Kara Bocek HC collection, which was 56 pages and released in 2017, had a cover price of $12.99.)

Lot of info dumped on us here, but the scenes with Hellboy playing with the little ape-men were worth the price of admission.

It was fun. Had a Saturday Morning cartoon vibe. I would not read it if it was an on going series, but as a little side mini, it was fine.

I felt that the end was a bit rushed and I hate that the action was relayed to us after the fact through Hellboy's story but it was fun.
