Gonna have to echo some others and pick these three

    1. Dark Phoenix Saga (really the Claremont/Byrne era as a whole, but this is the heart of it)
    2. E is for Extinction (the whole first arc up to Nova's defeat)
    3. House of X/Powers of X

Also love Mutant Genesis. Not the greatest X-story by a long shot, but it's neat to see almost every major X-Man (minus Kitty, Kurt, Rachel, Alex and Lorna) gathered together with some great early Jim Lee art against their most iconic nemesis.

    1.) Dark Phoenix Saga
    2.) E is for Extinction
    3.) House of X

It was hard to leave Messiah CompleX/Second Coming out.

Of the stories that just seem to eternally remain relevant and get retread consistently; I'd agree with the Dark Phoenix saga and Days of Future Past. I'm less sure of a third tale that stands head and shoulders above the rest.

    1) Claremont & Byrne/Cockrum - ANAD era
    2) Morrison & Whedon - NXM/AXM era
    3) Hickman & Larraz/Silvia - House of X

Stan Lee's X-Men always get a mention since its the original. And the 90s Cartoon is likely the most known/popular.
I was trying to do too much and not doing any of it as well as I could. But I've had a change of mind... though not everyone shall enjoy it. I will.

The most important stories are DPS, DoFP and House of X/Powers of 10. The ones that most defined the franchise.

    - Age of Apocalypse (because duh)
    - E for Extinction
    - HoX/PoX

These are probably the most radical shifts in the franchise.

DP, Inferno, DAS, DoFP, GL/MK and MC are good stories, but didn't change how the franchise was seen.

The stories where the X-Men truly get there asses handed to them yet they prevail in the end speak to me.

    Mutant Massacre
Inferno (Reiterates the sacrifices a random group of people have made)
Xtinction Agenda (could seriously be adapted into a big screen blockbuster)

I would love to know why people rate the Dark Phoenix Saga so much. Yes it is a good story but for me the whole story was ruined when they found Jean at the bottom of the sea a few years later.
    My Picks....
    1.Mutant Massacre
    2.Age Of Apocalypse
    3.HOXPOX

The 3rd spot used to be Days Of Future Past or Outback era

I would love X-Tinction Agenda as a huge event. They could have MCU movies for X-amen, New Mutants, and X-Factor established and then do a huge crossover event. Sure they would change some of the players but the concept is great.
