Looking for great video games like Cave Story

What I am looking for are games that ooze passion. I have recently finished Cave Story and Xenoblade Chronicles on my Wii. I believe Cave Story is a game that combines many over-done concepts, adds them together and spices them up. I feel the same way about Xenoblade Chronicles, the game has depth deeper than the Marianas Trench.

What I am trying to say is, I am looking for video games that reflect real life: they're sometimes serious, sometimes silly and sometimes regular games. I am not specifically looking for new games, or old games, I am looking for games that show you how much effort and commitment they put in to the game to make sure it came out good. Preferably Action/RPG games.

I'll second Fire Emblem.
Maybe also try Golden Sun and it's sequel.

Hopefully you can get them whatever console you have.

Earthbound is a superb classic.

If you have an Android or iOS, then you'll have tons of games that'll be to your liking.

Games on handheld devices:
Sword & Sworcery - superb Zeldaish surreal game.
Knights of Pen & Paper - a table top rpg. Really addictive and fun
Undercroft
Sword of Fargoal
Bit Dungeon
Devious Dungeon

You could try these on an emulator:
Castlevania Circle of the Moon
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Super Metroid

Probably incredibly hard to find, now, but I'd recommend just about everything Working Designs localized before it went under. Lunar: Silver Star Story, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, Alundra, etc.

Easier to find games:
Legend of Dragoon
Xenogears
Castlveania: Symphony of the Night
Atelier Iris (and its sequels, though the first is the best)

Also, I can't personally vouch for it, but a lot of the games you listed seem to be other favorites of friends who adored the Breath of Fire series. Also, Legend of Mana (or whatever title you want to use, the localization was all over the place on those).
