Pretty much ditto. Rucka first, then Perez, with Jimenez close behind. Orlando is probably next in my list, he just hasn't had enough freedom from restraint to truly show it. But that Mayfly prison issue sure is a great mission statement for his Diana to me.
Yeah I'm going with Rucka, though it's very close between him and Jimenez. After them, I'd probably put Perez and Marston as equally good for their respective eras and their ideas for the character. Joy Murchison also deserves major props as she ghost wrote some of the best GA issues, including Villainy Inc and the Queen Atomia issue.
Gail is the only person who, I think, understood Diana and showed her depth, power, and humor while still making her relatable.
George Perez.
Yeah I’m old school, but he laid out the blueprint on how to do WW right when he brought her into the Post Crisis DC universe.
I'm sorry but...it shouldn't? Marston created the character and a lot of his ideas ended up on the page, and the creation worked because a lot of his ideas worked. That's really all it has to mean.
Not all of his ideas hold up through a modern lens though, which is a given since he wrote it in the 1940s. His foundation is essential, but the best subsequent writers are able to write the character well by keeping what worked and not focusing as much on what didn't. Granted, the writers that are able to do that for this character are kind of a rarity sadly enough.
Perez! I don’t care if anyone on here disagrees, because George really got Diana and her world down correctly. The art the stories were just amazing. It’s a shame that DC didn’t care what he did with WW, because it’s clear they had no interest in making her popular like the other characters!
