Making Teen Cable and Old Cable separate characters would require retconning Liefield's Cable and Stryfe and probably X-Man, Rachel and that Askani plots so no.

We already had a Teen Cable whose personality was a little closer to his older self and was having trouble with the TO-Virus with Askani'Son but I don't think Brisson and Duggan read that series.

    Clearly they did not.

As for separating out Kid Cable and adult Cable... well, that’s probably not a good idea for reasons mentioned. And at some point Kid Cable has to go back to the future. Buuut... if Cable can get this new lease on life in the Dawn of X days of Krakoa, why not his clone, Stryfe?

    Hear me out:

    - It weighs on Cyclops that Nathan will have to go back to the future, go through many trials and tribulations, and will ultimately come back to this era and end up dead by his own (teenaged) hand. He is thinking about this very thing when someone hears his thoughts.
    - Enter Stryfe. All Stryfe ever wanted was the life that Kid Cable now has, with his parents. He decides to break Krakoan law by cloning Cable, with help from Sinister and Hope, and then using one of Cable’s safe houses and his time travel technology to send him back to the future. This way Kid Cable can stay here in the present. Cyclops finds out about their plan, and goes along with it.
    - So the adult Cable we have known this entire time, the one fought Stryfe in X-Cutioner’s Song and who raised Hope in the future and ultimately died in Extermination, was a clone all along. Just like Stryfe himself.
    - This revelation, around what they have just done and its implication for everything, sparks a profound change in Stryfe himself. If a flawed clone can be the hero that his former arch nemesis was all along, then why can’t he?
    - Enter: Soldier X. Ha. Since this was a title way back when, why not dust it off rather than come up with a new codename for Stryfe? Since he’d no longer want to go by Stryfe, to mark his heroic turn he’d now be Soldier X. And with Cable now off in space with SWORD in that title, this Cable series becomes the Soldier X book.
    - What’s its premise? Well, to punish him for going against the laws of Krakoa, Soldier X becomes singleton commando operator conducting missions on behalf of Krakoan national interests and security. He’s run “off book” by Sage with orders from Magneto himself. I could definitely see a crossover with X-Force at some point too. Maybe find a role for Bishop in this too, working with Sage, since he’s criminally underused in Marauders at the moment.

At any rate, I can see it working. Then you have Kid Cable, getting to live in the here and now but off in space currently with SWORD, as well as an adult version who happens to be a clone and former arch nemesis of the original. I’d buy the hell out of that. If I can’t have OG Cable, this would be the next best thing. It would essentially be Cable without the T-O virus, doing Cable like things as he tries to redeem himself in service to his country.

And watching him try to develop relationships with Rachel, Hope, Scott, Jean and even Kid Cable himself would be highly interesting. He’d be like an uncle to Hope, and possibly even a big brother to Kid Cable... with others like Rachel still skeptical of him due to his days as “The Chaosbringer” and also his rage which he struggles to keep in check. Since he has so many damn names (Nathan Christopher Charles Summers) he could go by one of the other ones instead of Nathan. Chris Summers would work.

Give him some badass commando looking version of his old armor, something less shiny. And without that dorky helmet. Maybe a hood instead he can pull up. And a face mask like Grifter or Ultimate Hawkeye. Something like that.

You can all probably tell I’m a 90s X-men fanboy. Ha.

For people that complain how Franklin retcon ruined continuity, this would change a lot more. Like Hope is only a Summers because Cable adopted her.

It would mess 30 years of continuity, for a character that isn't even popular like Kid Cable. Also the redundancy

Yep. You couldn’t separate them. They’re the same character. But you could do a redemption story involving his evil clone. Similar to Scarlet Spider (Kaine) over in the Spider-man books, which was a fun read actually when Christopher Yost and Ryan Stegman did that series.
