Default Project 007 (IO Interactive James Bond Game)

Don’t think I have ever been as hyped for something I know nothing about as this. I mean it’s the perfect premise - Hitman’s open ended missions and world travel, but with James Bond?! So excited for this!

Says it's an "origin story". We've sort of seen that with the Craig films though, so I'm kind of curious if this will be it's own thing. If it does follow the "Craigverse" perhaps it'll deal with Bond's military career, something that's been touched on in the films but never really elaborated on while his troubled childhood and gaining of his 'style', 00 status and supporting cast are pretty much all the Craig films have been about.

I'm kind of wondering how they're going to design and characterize Bond with this. Evoke a specific era and style it after Craig or do their own thing?

I am presuming it'll be its own thing, though likewise I do wonder if it's going to be modern or a period setting. I feel like the 50's/60's era of the books is more appealing personally but I could enjoy a Craig style modern game as well.

Hard to believe that we went through an entire console generation without a new Bond game!

I'd wager the best approach to characterizing Bond is to do something like Obsidian's spy rpg Alpha Protocol - let the player determine which Bond their Bond is most like.

I am kind of curious as to the level of choice they'll give you.

Going by the level design of Hitman I would assume that players will be able to apply an array of social and actual stealth, take out targets and complete other objectives in any way they see fit, and have numerous forms of equipment from Q Branch to accomplish the mission. It would be fun if they allow you to decide what kind of Bond you are - ruthless vs compassionate, charismatic or cold, silent or aggressive. And as with Hitman, very replayable missions.

...Plus if I can't seduce people or play like a pro at the Casino I will be very disappointed.

I think maybe it'll be a bit like the post-Fleming novels or the current comics, which kind of fuse the novel and movie interpretations of the character.

Someone on another forum I visit suggested this should be a 1960s period piece, which would be so much fun

^The comics are actually doing that with the novel adaptations set during the year they were published, although those are coming out at an extremely slow rate (Only Casino Royale and Live and Let Die have been adapted).

If they do stick closer to the novels I'm curious if they'll include one bit of Bond that's never been done in the movies or games; his permanent cheek scar.

From some more rumors and news it seems that more and more likely the game will be it's own thing, not affiliated with any of the films or their actors/continuity, so kind of like the approach the comics have taken lately, which draw some inspiration from the various versions of Bond but apart from that are largely their own kind of universe.

Granted, there's been some Bond games that have kind of had a non-film Bond (Agent Under Fire, the weird Goldeneye: Rogue Agent) but they've clearly been inspired by the film's approach to the material, they probably just didn't want to pay too much for Pierce's likeness or audio etc.
