Default What are DC's best comic stories?

I'm currently planning a poll thread to determine DC's Best stories, and I'd like the forum's help in filling out the bracket.

The stories you recommend can be in-continuity, they can be elseworlds, they can be show tie-ins, as long as they're comics, it's all good. Just give me the title of the story, and the issues it's told in. If you see that someone else has already recommended that story you want to recommend, be sure to give it a second. It'll help me narrow things down.

I want to do a 48 story bracket, and so far I have found 32 stories to include. Here's what I've already got.

    DC
    1. Crisis on Infinite Earths (Crisis on Infinite Earths #1-12)
    2. Infinite Crisis (Infinite Crisis #1-7)

    7. For the Man Who Has Everything (Superman Annual #11)
    8. What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way? (Action Comics #775)
    9. Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow (Superman #423, Action Comics #583)

    How about LEGENDS?

It was the first big Post Crisis gathering of heroes, it introduced The New Gods into the new continuity, gave us The Suicide Squad and all new Justice League, had Wonder Woman officially meet her peers...

It had a good creative pedigree w. Ostrander, Wein and Byrne all contributing.

    Green Lantern Rebirth: (1 - 6)
Green Arrow Volume 3: (1-15) Kevin Smith and (16-21) Meltzer
    Green Lantern/Green Arrow (76 -100) Denny O Neil
Huntress Cry for Blood: 1-4 Greg Rucka (Huntress, Batman, Question)
    Batman/Green Arrow; Poison Tomorrow
Legion of Super Heroes (Levitz) 326-31 (there is some historic Darkseid stuff in Levitz run to)

There is some other great stuff to, just don't know if they would be classics (Geoff Johns JSA) (Denny O Neil: Question) (Gail Simone: Birds of Prey) - I thought Dixon was a better plot writer, but she brought the characters to life.

Good picks, classic JLA is a must, and I totally forgot about Kingdom Come and Justice.

Again, Whole runs are not eligible.

If you want to recommend an entire run, recommend any story arc in it.

When I think of best stories, I usually think of single issue stories or maybe a two-parter, not an entire run or an extended story arc.

D.C. used to do "Best of" reprints--

First in the tabloid format LIMITED COLLECTORS' EDITION C-52 (1977) which reprinted "Night of the Reaper" (BATMAN 237), "The Demon Within" (HOUSE OF MYSTERY 201), "Doorway to the Unknown" (THE FLASH 148), "Dirty Job" (OUR ARMY AT WAR 241), "Firehair: The Stallion" (TOMAHAWK 136), "The Last Days of Superman" (SUPERMAN 156).

Then in their digests which were called THE BEST OF DC [Blue Ribbon Digest]--however, there was usually a "Best of the Year" collection each year. The first of these was in issue 5 for 1979 and included stories from DC COMICS PRESENTS 10, ADVENTURE COMICS 466 (Deadman), JONAH HEX 24, SUPERMAN FAMILY 196 (Superboy), HOUSE OF MYSTERY 267, DETECTIVE COMICS 483 ("The Curse of Crime Alley"), G.I. COMBAT 213, SECRETS OF HAUNTED HOUSE 17 and ACTION COMICS 502 ("Fall and Rise of the Star-Child").

The last of these digest selections was in issue 71 (and the last issue of that digest run) for 1985 stories. A few of the stories from that--"Mogo Doesn't Socialize," Rite of Spring," "Bits of (Ambush) Bugginess," and "Forever Blowing Bubbles."

    Jim

If we're going to include single issue stories, I would definitely include:

Justice League of America #200 (1981) - Gerry Conway, George Perez, & various artists - A League Divided
