Doesn't have to be a string of pop hits - it could be a musical score. But it had to have been released as an official soundtrack.

At first was thinking I had a Rocky CD but not from any one movie but from like the first four movies but then I realized...Purple Rain end of story.
Purple Rain, A Hard Day's Night, Heavy Metal, Footloose, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings (the 1978 animated version), The Pink Panther, West Side Story, Kundun, O Brother Where Art Thou.
If it's "Favorite..."?
Velvet Goldmine
If bending the rules is allowable?
Logan's Sanctuary
That said, there is a lot in the "Runner Up..." pile.
Purple Rain is a great choice.
I also like the Trainspotting soundtrack, as well as a few of Wes Anderson's soundtracks like Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums
The soundtrack for The Crow (1994) was really good in and of itself, and complimented the story perfectly in pretty much every scene, so bonus points for that.
The soundtrack for Grease (1978) was something I didn’t listen to, but whenever I’d watch the movie, the songs really stuck in my head for days.
When I work, I tend to listen to a lot of scores. My favorites would be Star Trek: The Motion Picture for movies, and The Flash Season 1 for TV.
All-time favorite would be Transformers: The Movie (1986)

My favorite movie soundtrack:
Avatar: Here's to the late, great Steve Dillon. Best. Punisher. Artist. EVER!
Surprised no one has mentioned Saturday Night Fever.
When I was in junior high, I think every kid I knew had this soundtrack.
