On the DS9 front. How about Rom. he wanted his son to have a better life and knew Starfleet was the gateway for that. He wanted it to happen so bad he threaten to burn down quark's bar when he found out Quark messed with the test Rom took. One of the few times he stood up to his brother. And he had that custom made Starfleet uniform for Rom.

Beldar and Prymatt Conehead, aka Donald and Mary Margaret DeCicco, are favorites of mine. Connie Conehead really couldn't have had better parents and Ronnie the Mechanic was really a great boyfriend for her, which Beldar and Prymatt eventually realized. And besides - who wouldn't want a dad who could Gnarfle a Garthok and fix a lawnmower engine with just his mouth!?

I know there are many single parent homes in real life, but it seems like on T.V. single parents are the norm and it's rare that both parents are together, usually one is dead. In the case of THE BRADY BUNCH, both Mike and Carol had a spouse that died--that's how they became the Brady bunch--yet I don't recall anyone mourning these birth parents. Ben Cartwright had bad luck with his wives--he had three which died soon after giving him a son.
