One of the posters available from the Calvary Comics website is this one by E. J. Pace which beautifully contrasts a poem of bitter unbelief with that of radiant faith in Jesus Christ.

The former is "Invictus," penned by avowed atheist William Ernest Henley, a Victorian era English poet who wrote it while convalescing after having his leg amputated due to tuberculosis. An aside: his friend Robert Louis Stevenson modeled Treasure Island's Long John Silver after Henley.

The latter is "My Captain" by Dorothea Day, an early 20th century journalist who, formerly enamored of Henley's writings, came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal Saviour. She wrote her poem as a rebuttal to Henley's, seeing its misguided bravado in the light of God's eternal Word.

    E. J. Pace (1879-1946) was a fine Bible scholar, artist, musician, and itinerant lecturer whose biography is mentioned in an earlier post. His unswerving devotion to Christ was the earmark of all of his post-conversion writings and artwork.

Alec Stevens here. "The Dave Roever Story" is a comics tract deftly drawn by Kerry Gammill (pencils) and Carlos Garzón (inks), but the real star of the show is Roever's testimony itself. He was horribly changed in a terrible incident in Vietnam, and also wonderfully changed by the hand of God. His story is heartbreakingly beautiful. Many years ago I saw a film about him called "Scars that Heal," and the title says it all.

Because this comics booklet so well fits within the range of what I publish I have - with Dave's permission - added his booklet to the Calvary Comics line. Have a look at the preview pages:

One of the featured stories in Maranatha: a visual Gospel is "The Pyongyang Revival." Presbyterian and Methodist missionaries from the United States put aside some of their denominational differences to come together for intercessory prayer, and from 1907-1910 over 300,000 Koreans in Pyongyang and the surrounding area received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. In those days, and in the years prior to World War II, Pyongyang was known as "the Jerusalem of the East" for its Christian presence, even though it had been under Japanese military occupation since 1910. After WWII with the Japanese dispelled, the Soviet communists installed Kim Il-sung as "supreme leader of North Korea," a position he held from 1948 to 1994. Many thousands of Christians fled to the south (before and during the Korean war), but those who were unable were trapped in the north to face intense persecution, torture, imprisonment, and even death. Astonishingly, Kim Il-sung's parents were Christians and part of the revival. However, he (and the subsequent Kim dynasty, right down to his grandson Kim Jong-un) demanded worship, adoration, and songs of praise from North Koreans as if he were a god.

The outworking of the Pyongyang revival accounts for why there is such a large Christian presence in South Korea to this present day.

Below are two preview pages from this eleven page story; enjoy!

The new book is here! SERMON CARTOONS by E. J. Pace is an 80 page volume featuring his editorial illustrations which are beautifully illuminated by truths from the Scriptures. Dr. Pace often dug into the original languages of the Old and New Testament to provide even deeper insights into the Word of God. His sole aim in life (1879-1946) was to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to cause all to consider the wonders of the Gospel message.
In addition to his drawings are short sermonettes which relate to and expound upon his themes, written by himself or by other leading evangelical Christians of his day.

This volume is a companion to the biography E. J. PACE: CHRISTIAN CARTOONIST, and contains illustrations and photographs not published in that book.

You are not getting any replies on this thread.

Not trying to be mean in pointing that out but...this kind of aggressive persistence can be off-putting.

You've successfully advertised what you're doing. Read the room.

I posted five times last year, and once this year (before now). That is hardly "aggressive."

Look at all the views this thread has gotten. Evidently people are interested in these books. You have misread the room. You are also unaware of private messages that have been sent to me on this forum. Considering that they have sold in many thousands across the nations only further consolidates this.

If you are not interested in the thread, skip over it. No hard feelings here.
