Default "Sing, Baby, Sing...": Black Canary Appreciation

    DC Forum Appreciation Thread rules:

    1) No negative comments about the honoree of this thread. It's an appreciation thread, not a non-appreciation one.

    2) No negative discussion about any competitors of the honoree of this thread (i.e. John Stewart in the Hal Jordan thread). No ifs, ands, or buts. Find another non-appreciation thread to do that, just not here.

    3) No negative comments about other versions of the character. For example, if you like the DCU version of Cyborg, but hate the DCnU version (or visa versa), just appreciate the earlier version and keep your comments about the latter to yourself.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She is one of the most capable martial artists in the DC Universe and has been an integral part of the Birds of Prey and the Justice League of America. This thread shall be dedicated to the greatness that is Black Canary.

Why hasn't she joined the JL in the New 52 yet? Seriously, she's more than capable and deserving of it. Oh and give her his own book DC, she deserves one of those to. If Green Arrow can get one, then so should Black Canary. At least she gets to be awesome on Arrow.

God, I miss reading about Black Canary!

She's definitely one of the best character DC has, and all she's in is the giant yawn-fest known (jokingly) as "Birds of Prey."

Seriously, scrap BoP, and just have Dinah join the JL already!

Discovered her 38 years ago and I'm glad I did. In fact, I have more comics featuring her in them than any other female DC superheroine (just nosing out Wonder Woman).

Since I'm pretty new to DC Comics in general, do you have a recommended reading list?

Though I haven't read it, the Chuck Dixon and Gail Simone runs on Birds of Prey is fantastic from what I've heard.

She also factors heavily into JLA: Year One. I started that one, but never got around to finishing it.

She was also a big player in the JLA before the reboot, even becoming the team leader for a while...during the Dwayne McDuffie run, I think??

Anyway, here's a list of the JLA issues in which she appeared: http://www.comicvine.com/justice-lea...ces/4005-1689/

EDIT: Man, I keep forgetting how good the Meltzer and McDuffie runs on JLA were. I miss that era of the League so much. Of course, that's before Robinson came onto the book...his run left a bad taste in my mouth.

Paul Dini is easily one of my favorite authors, I might pick up that OGN by the time it's released.

You definitely need to read the whole Birds of Prey run by both Chuck Dixon and Gail Simone, best representation of Dinah Lance by far.

I just finished the first trade of Meltzer's JLA run and it was pretty fun to read. Guess I'll continue with the next trade, thank you for the recommendation!

Most of the trades (except New 52) seem to be out of print, I'll be checking my local comic book stores for floppies. Thanks!
