I'm curious what people voted "other" for.
I think it's kind of obvious that the classic Super Powers JLA remains the favourite, even amongst people who are too young to have any recollection of it, which is why I'm not surprised the Justice League Animated Series is next.
The JLA cartoon is the only other really notable classic JLA in popular culture, hence why you have the Hal Jordan, John Stewart split today. For many, John was their childhood GL, and is who they bonded with.
I voted Meltzer-Bene-McDuffie.
Because it’s the Satellite League plus characters that should have been on that roster or came later: Vixen, Dr Light, Black Lightning.
Geo-Force was on it way too short though.
This team had Wally West AND Cass Cain.
There can never be a better team on account of that alone.
ConnEr Kent flies. ConnOr Hawke has a bow. Batman's kid is named DamiAn.
To do spoiler tags, use [ spoil ] at the start of the sentence and [ /spoil ] at the end, without the spaces. You're welcome!
Meltzer/Benes/McDuffie hands down. I'm frankly tired of the 6-7 roster member League. The more the better.
Any love for Justice League Detroit?
And not to rag on Gerry Conway, but I feel that with a better writer, this could've been a great book. They definitely had some interesting characters. I think Conway had just run out of steam at this point.
Plus, the art was pretty unspectacular as well. It just didn't work on so many levels.
These polls always reveal members age and bias to the era they were a child in or started reading in...
Last poll asked something about readers favourite era of comics..
1970s won that poll
Now the jla from the satellite league... 1975... winning again?
Nostalgia is strong with this group of old dogs.
For me as far as Justice League stories New52 Darkseid War saga is to this day one of the best JL stories Ive read. And one of my favourite stories in general.
Im at a big disadvantage though as I havent read much before 1985... frankly books that old dont generally hold up well imo...
Even Morrison's, whom Im a huge fan of has mostly bored me with his first 2 JLA Volumes... hopefully 3 and 4 give me his usual magic
Any particular volumes to look at from the 1970s?
Can members list 5 or 6 volumes each from a different decade or era?
Clearly I need more samples of the good stuff!
I was wondering -- how do you feel volume 1 functions as a League origin story?
I recall volume 2 having the epic Heaven two-parter but can't remember what rounds out the volume. Anyone know what took place between the fight with Heaven and the weird Darkseid Is story that takes up volume 3?
Traditionally I dislike origin stories, particularly with very well known properties...
Some battle takes place and they are distrusting of one another... I dont think it was bad but didnt leap out as necessary or above average as far as stories go or specifically origins go. Frankly I barely remember it... I need to reread it, and I'm sure its still in one of my boxes.
As for what is in the middle? Don't know yet as I cherry pick pretty hard with all the eras... I only became a serious collector in 2016 so I tend to research a lot, get recommendations, read reviews, etc ...
I'd heard Darkseid War Saga had very little prerequisites other then Forever Evil and both books were considered some of the best materials from the New52 era so I bought both.
No regrets they are both odd stories but spectacular art and I found the story so compelling. Beyond that someone with more reading experience may answer your query.
My Justice League includes Snapper Carr.
Satellite Justice League is my favorite.
