    Default Pixar's Lightyear

Lightyear, announced at today’s Disney Investor Day panel, won’t be a Toy Story movie, and doesn’t seem to feature the Buzz toy voiced by Tim Allen in the quadrilogy. It is, as Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter explained, an original sci-fi/action movie that tells the story of the actual Buzz, the young test pilot who finds himself catapulted into the stars to become a one-day-legendary space ranger.
Oh, and Buzz is voiced by Steve Rogers himself, Chris Evans. America’s ass has become America’s chin, ladies and gents.

Lightyear is expected to release June 17, 2022.

I’m really interested in this. Though it makes me wonder if they’ll ever do a Woodys Roundup movie later on down the line if this is a success.

Dunno; apparently John Lasseter hated the cartoon, hence why it's kinda been ignored. My guess, since Lightyear is supposed to be a movie inside the Toy Story universe that inspired the franchise that our Buzz came from, it'll probably ignore the cartoon, too (although, seeing as real life franchises often have multiple incarnations, even if Lightyear pretends that the cartoon never happened, that wouldn't disqualify the latter from being a canonical part of the in-universe Buzz Lightyear franchise).

What? That cartoon was awesome, all things considered.

Dunno why (esp. since it was so much its own thing that it hardly harmed anything else) and yeah, it was pretty good (Wayne Knight as Zurg was a genius choice for a funny menacing villain). Maybe the movie will prompt new interest in the cartoon?

So is Zurg a robot? Or controls those robots? Or is he not even in this?

I thought the same thing. Pixar western would be cool.

They did that, it was called The Good Dinosaur.

I actually thought that was a fun flick, not Pixar's best by any stretch but I didn't think there was anything wrong with it.

I liked it too. I was just joking that it put the dinos in a Western type story, so Pixar has done a "Western". Some of the animation, particularly the flood, was spectacular.
