I'm actually surprised that Tynion didn't bring him back.
He is still dead?? Damian sees his ghost in Robin..
It definitely has a lot of links to the TV show(which was really good) but there's nothing there that said it couldn't be in continuity if they wanted and provide a reason for his disappearance. It seems like the easiest way to bring him back at this point, he gets himself out of this jam from an old enemy from his MI6 days and when he gets back to Gotham he finds that his captor faked his death in order to keep Batman off the trail.
That's my hope anyway.

It's clearly where Robin is leading. I give it 'til issue 12 before he's back.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"
"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"
"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."
Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!
ANY Main character's "Death," in my opinion, and it's mine so... IS LAZY WRITING. AGAIN, just my opinion.
Ok, just a thought. I think I read somewhere, where Grant Morrison (Not a fan BTW), did major research before his Batman RIP writing, and the subsequent events that elevated Richard to Batman. I can't write comics well, BUT if I could I think I'd follow his pattern and go back into previous Batman series, 'Tec, World's Finest, Batman, B & S, etc, and see what all's been covered and go from there.
THERE are STILL plenty of stories to be told. Writers need to come up with original ideas of their own and run with it. GOOD or BAD. Let history judge whether or not its readable. To me, ANY Batman story is worth reading, as he's my personal favorite, BRUCE AS BATMAN THAT IS, and all others. Again, just my opinion.
In he words of the weak minded, Kenobi Force induced Stormtrooper, "Move along, move along."
THE SIGNAL (Duke Thomas) is DC's secret shonen protagonist so I made him a fandom wiki
