But the question may boil down to . . . when?

I think it'll either be spun out from that two-part Robin backup from Joshua Williamson in Batman and Detective Comics or that it'll be some big reveal in Tynion's Joker. The reveal in Joker may explain why Julia Pennyworth has been noticeably absent from any of the Bat-Titles since Alfred's passing.
I'm currently reading Batman, Detective Comics, DCeased: Dead Planet, Dark Knights: Death Metal, Daredevil, Thor, Nightwing, The Rise of Ultraman and Red Hood and The Outlaws. I'm also trade-waiting the Hickman-era of X-Men comics.

So someone like Alfred who is so tied to Batman is not down for the count. Even more so with a movie coming out. his death was a cheap trick that everyone knows wont last. Comic book deaths are so dumb. They are done by writers for shock value who are too lazy to write something good.

I love Frank Miller but the whole death of Elektra thing. I was like who cares. A character that was in like two issues, given a back story for a life with matt that was never even hinted at before and was there just to kill. I am shocked people made such a big thing over it.
In this case it was an editorial mandate

Do you mean Maggie from Eternal Youth? She was a cool character, but I personally don't remember that much about her.

I do typically enjoy the idea of Alfred having a love interest, though. In particular I've always loved that Julia was his and Mademoiselle Marie's daughter.

I liked that, too, but too much time has passed for that to be a thing any longer. (Unless you're planning to remove Mademoiselle Marie from her WWII timeline.)

Disagree. The greatest aspect of these characters is that they are immortal. Timeless. Enduring. I mean, we're all reading a character who was decades old before we were born here, generally.

I'm guessing the next team on Batman will find a way to bring him back. Now that all the earths are back, they have lots of Alfred's to choose from!

King kept talking about status quo changes in the end it turned out no change was ever planned. The only change was one mandated by editorial not planned by the writer.

He's taking the only vacation Bruce allows him.

Sure, Bruce sends him away but you know Alfred never gets any relaxation worrying about who is patching Bruce up while he's gone.

I would like to see him return and was shocked that they so callously killed him.

    Poor Alfred..

He is like Jason now.. Someone who was killed for a Batman villain.
