The use of Enterprise's finale as part of a TNG episode was fairly dismissive. Instead of Riker on a holodeck, have an elderly Hoshi Sato tell the story to young Jim Kirk on Tarsus IV. When the story's over, Hoshi asks the boy his name and he says "James Tiberius Kirk". And fandom would stand and applaud.

To paraphrase the late Gene Siskel, "Review the show you're watching, not the show you wish you were watching."

I fully acknowledge my entitled fanboy whining. But this is a comic book site, so it's expected. I was not happy with Picard literally burying Jim Kirk. Ending Enterprise with the same three seconds this video ends with while keeping the boys identity a secret until then is pure hindsight and cherry picking, but it ties together two links of the Trek franchise exploiting an Easter Egg from the mirror universe story.
