If ten years of recording The Young and the Restless for my mother have taught me anything, it's that characters in serial dramas are always happily in love...until they're not
“The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views...which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.” - the 4th Doctor
Themiscyra opening scene
The brighter costume (sans ugly brown strap)
Wonder Woman flying under her own power
Gaston & Pine’s undeniable chemistry
Kristen Wii’s performance (she truly elevated the crap she was given)

It's not really about Trump. I don't think she would've focussed so much on the relationship with the son if this were about Trump. The only thing you can say about Max and Trump is that they both make big promises on TV about change and are willing to stir things up in order to get more power. But heck, Trump hasn't really accomplished the things he set out to do. Oh and the hair I guess.
Heck, as oppportunistic as Max Lord is, she still portrays him as sympathetic, and spoilers:end of spoilers
actually allows him to regret his actions
