    Yeah, it's pretty tiring.

Even Bleeding Cool's reviewers have pointed it out. Thor's comic is experiencing some terrible circular storytelling.

It's just a continuation of Aaron's arc on the character which we "thought" was over.

Whatever happened to Thor being a hero? It's all about deconstruction.

Well The Two Worthies story in Avengers #50 was at least a nice meeting between Thor and Arthur.

I definitely feel like there should've been a moratorium on stories focused on Thor wielding his hammer after Aaron.

    Exactly.

This is like after the Clone Saga, another clone of Peter Parker showed up after his return. Or after "Knightsend" Batman returns only for another villain to break his neck or something.

It's not a direction that makes sense at all IMO especially after a run that lasted years dealt with the same issue.

I won't defend the larger part of Cates' work. He's great at setting up the pins, but terrible at knocking them down.

That said, his work is NOT DECONSTRUCTION.

If anything, his hammer arc is pulling in the exact opposite of Aaron's.

Cates' Thor might be unsettled by losing his hammer, but he's still got his head on his shoulder, still fulfilling his duties and in general being a bad ass.

You cannot say that of Aaron's Thor, who's entire self worth was determined by whether or not he could pick up the hammer.

More than that, Cates demonstrated in no uncertain terms that Thor's power rested in him, and not his hammer.

Again, this was not true of Aaron.

Aaron's Thor was defined by his inability to pick up his hammer, and acted like Hercules in all but name. He either wanted mead, just had mead or was looking for mead, if they needed him to have any characterization at any given moment.

Cates' Thor is a statesman, the polite God who spoke softly, but carried a big stick. He's demonstrated that he can actually give up his hammer, without years of angst following. He might mourn the loss of his weapon, but that's to be expected.

Aaron was terrible in all the wrong ways.

Cates is terrible because his payoff rarely matches what he set up.

There's plenty to dislike about Cates, but not because he's following in Aaron's footsteps. Frankly, if his plots were better, Cates would be the perfect guy to repair Aaron's damage.

Of course this is Arthur now the X-office have taken Avalon:

Oh how I am coming to despise modern Marvel. I really don't expect anything better from them, though.

So I guess Once and Future King isn't the only story with an evil king Arthur...so much for British Lore!

    (Also under-dressed Betsy. Woo...).

    Oh I totally agree

Imo, a few gems aside perhaps, it's just horrible

A shadow of the house of ideas it used to be

I know it was only a short story, but was it any good?
It's a nice change to see Thor (classic or modern) go up against characters from different books like the Brood.
I would like to see Thor crossover with Aliens.

At least his design looks good. And I think I spot two different versions of him?

I just hope they've made a decision on Thor's mythos and made it work

Is that "unworthy Thor" in the top right?
