I think it's more than that. Shooter was an Avengers guy - he had two runs on the comic - whereas X-Men was exclusively Claremont's baby, the team being intrinsically linked to the writer, and it was already becoming the best-selling Marvel title. I think Shooter felt having an X-Man beat up the most powerful Avenger would grant the X-Men status at the expense of the Avengers. Don't forget that when Shooter wrote Secret Wars he had Spider-Man easily slap the X-Men down on-page (and he had Spidey calling Wolverine 'a joke'), which I felt was very much Shooter putting the X-Men (and Claremont) in their place.
It's to do with perceived status which can affect the popularity of a character/title, imo.
Your observations in regards to Secret Wars '84 is most interesting.
Between battles, Shooter also allowed some "canoodling with the enemy" between Thor & the Enchantress

Kinda wish they'd redo Secret Wars, only with a more evenly balanced hero villain ratio. Thor held off most of the villains later in the mini
Mjolnir is a mystery. It’s the only one of the 8 hammers (the 7 others mentioned Fear Itself) that survived Odin overthrowing Cul in prehistory. And not even Odin can control its magic, and its many powers, as we have seen in Avengers #1-14 Volume 1. It would be great if this is resolved.
I honestly don't care about Mjölnir.
couldn't care less about it in fact.
I wanna reach out to Donny Cates and tell him i will pay 5 times as much for each issue of Thor if we can take a pause for the next 2 years at the very least where we don't have stories revolve about Mljonir or whether or not Thor can lift it... just treat it as any other weapon for like 2 years, is that too much to ask?
Who is the black woman?
