Scenario 2: Marvel decides to close the door on Black Panther’s side of the MCU for good in terms of solo outings. Thought the characters will still appear in ensemble films and tv shows.

And knowing how Black characters don’t get as many chances as white characters, there’s a chance number 2 could be the likely outcome if the movie underperforms.
Marvel ain't going to be affected financially by the lack of any future BP movies.

I don't expect scenario 2 (although it would not shock me)

I expect they use all those movies as an excuse for the movie if it does not hit what they expect it to be. A billion should be out of the question even with Boseman alive. Making back it's budget-yes that should not be an issue.

But with all those other films around it-it will probably take longer.

But they still want that black money.

They saw what black folks did.

Black folks were dressing up like they were going to the Prom or Oscars for any other movie including Spiderverse.

Folks were paying to take kids to see Star Wars with Finn. Especially not celebrities.

Black folks planned watching parties for that film-last time I saw that done was for Girl Trip and Selma.

They saw how Black Panther trades dominated Amazon for almost a whole YEAR even the bad ones.

If they think Black Panther 3 can bring that again-they will do it. If not Shuri, Monica or someone is going to get it for them.

Chadwick Boseman won his posthumous Golden Globe for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Happy but at the same time pissed because it’s just very on brand for these award shows to recognize people once they’re gone.

On this last day of Black History Month, I want to take a moment to celebrate T'Challa, The Black Panther. When I talk about Marvel Studios' decision not to recast T'Challa and how that is problematic, people ask, "What's the big deal about T'Challa anyway?".

The short answer to that question is that T'Challa is literally Black History.

*He was the very first Black Superhero in main stream comics.

    * He was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1966 (during a racially turbulent time of civil unrest.)

*He was created to be the anti-stereotype of Black characters of that time.

*He was a genius with a number of PhDs.

*He was an Olympic level athlete.

    * He was the king of the most technologically advanced, independent, African country that's never been influenced or colonized by any other countries.

*While The Fantastic Four were the equivalent to DC's Justice League for Marvel comics at the time, T'Challa single handedly defeated them.

*T'Challa has over 55 years of stories.

*To date, he is the FIRST and ONLY leading Black superhero in the MCU that is not a sidekick or supporting character.

T'Challa broke a stereotypical color barrier for many Black fictional characters that we see and love today such as Luke Cage, Falcon, Blade, Spawn, Blue Marvel, Storm, Monica Rambeau and Shuri. He is the epitome of the concept of representation we strive for when it comes to diversity and inclusion. T'Challa is like the Jackie Robinson of black characters in mainstream comics.

As we reflect on Black History Month, understand that the way history is lost or forgotten is when stories are no longer told. When the character of T'Challa is stopped, then that is how you truly kill a legacy. The best way to honor T'Challa (and the amazing Chadwick Boseman) is to recast the character and allow their legacies to continue for generations to come.

If you're interested in hearing more reasons why Marvel should recast T'Challa, you can watch here: https://youtu.be/VARt1gn-Gp0

    P.S.

The call to recast has NOTHING to do with who wears the mantle of Black Panther, nor is it a call for an immediate recast. Regardless of who has the mantle, T'Challa is/has always remained present in the comics. We can honor the actor/character in better ways.

Great read even in spite of my nervousness about recasting. BP and his importance to comics and superhero culture as a whole mustn't be understated.

That article just underscores the fact that 80% of the moviegoers are just not as invested in the actual comic books and comic book characters as we are. And that's okies. I couldn't care any less about "Wrestling" if I tried, yet there are tens of millions of fans.

really depends on what the disney heads set as their expectations for it. If there expectations are a billion, then yeah... they may have questions or look to change things. If their expectations are Ant-Man money, then it isn't as big of a deal.

Depending on who they choose as the lead, the problem is going to be merchandise. But people get offended when you bring that up.

Meanwhile, BP2 starts filming in July...ends in 6 months. So Post Production will be just 6 months as it gets released July 2022.

Now I know a lot of yall arent buying tickets anyway. However, its crazy to me how this movie will have half the post-production as last time. Making it possible for rushed effects, reshoots et.

Why are they so desperate to get this movie out in 2022.
Because it's probably foundational to the future of the MCU and they can't push the film back too much without substantially shifting around everything else across the next 2-3 Phases. My suspicion is that Disney told Coogler and the other creatives "we're getting this film out on roughly the same timetable despite Boseman's death, how do you want to move forward?". With the limited time they had to process their grief, they decided to do what they felt best honored their friend in that moment and probably redid the script to insert another character into the role T'Challa would've had (likely Shuri/M'Baku).

With Namor as the presumptive villain you got the introduction of another major world power, the first official mutant, plus set up for the Illuminati. If Storm is introduced (whether as an endcredit scene or as a supporting character) you have a major X-Men. Doctor Doom might be introduced and he'd obviously be the next saga-level villain. Disney, thinking they're pocketbooks won't be hurt, would rather get the film out on time without T'Challa than massively change the future of several other films just to keep him in the MCU, in addition to the whole element of trying to keep Coogler and the cast happy. They seem to be against a recast and that just plays into getting the film out faster with a few quick rewrites.
