His pacing is decent and as has been discussed before, his Batman has been really focused on establishing his new character. That won’t be the an issue with T’Challa since he’s a known quantity so I expect even better pacing and stronger direction. He can hit the ground running with T’Challa if he takes the right approach and respects the character.

Hopefully they got Narcisse on deck for any spin-off minis so he can build his resume and take over eventually. But yea, this is a strong choice on paper and one I’m cautiously optimistic about, but as always I question what is his starting point going to be? Will he still be dealing with Coates’ space Wakanda, mutants, and democracy, or are we getting a soft reboot to reflect the stuff being done with T’Challa in other books? All the stuff I said before is null and void if interviews make this relaunch seem like a successor to Coates and a continuation of the themes that dominated his run. Celebrity writers have a pretty shitty record with T’Challa so Ridley’s gonna need to really say the right things before I’m a supporter. But this is much better than what I was expecting.
Yeah I'm pretty much down for anyone of they say and want to do right by T'Challa and back those words. Narcisse could be a rising star, Redjack is the ideal pick and this John Ridley can be a solid choice if he comes correct, wants to elevate T'Challa and can actually pace comics correctly. Anyone saying they are going to continue Coates verse is an insta no for me. But I think Marvel has gotta know that Coates is isht and to not continue those themes

I can't say I've read any of Mr. Ridley's work, so I can't speak on quality, but two points concern me:

    1) It feels like he's being given almost every P.O.C. book nowadays, like he's the "fashionable" black writer. It makes me worried that he was chosen because of his high profile, not his pitch.

    2) Looking at his bibliography, I'm seeing a lot of work exploring the African-American experience. And that just reminds me of Coates. *shudder*

But hey, like I said, I've not read his work, so both points could very well be moot. I'm just cautious, these days.

Yea Ridley at the very least is competent. He’s done some struggle projects but as far as his comics are concerned, he knows how to center a lead, pace a story, and build a world, all things we’ve been sorely missing for like half a decade.

He’s written a few graphic novels (which I haven’t read) from the 00’s and his current work is decent enough that I don’t doubt his ability to do fiction. On paper he’s a decent pick who will probably bring some publicity to the relaunch. Marvel clearly has this unspoken rule that only black writers can write the BP solo so when you’ve locked out all the experienced/acclaimed A-list and B-list writers (who are almost exclusively white) all you’re left with are celebrity gimmicks if you wanna get a big black creator who’ll generate mainstream interest. So in that regard Ridley checks another box as well. As long as he doesn’t try and follow up on Coates I think we’ll get a straightforward run on BP, nothing insane, but something I at least will enjoy every issue.

He also did Three Kings, Barbershop, and Undercover Brother. An episode of JL and Static.

He seems to be a writer/producer who is able to write for various genres.

He wouldn't deploy the wings in a hallway or where space it tight. I didnt see if he said the suit part was too?

To be fair, it was only an episode each show, but I think that would imply he knew McDuffie.

From what I've seen, he a good artist. Not sure about interior action, but cover action looks good.
