Who knows. Maybe the new T'Challa actor might end up earning an Oscar nomination for Marvel if they had gone with a recast. They should have at least try to see the outcome first and if it doesn't work, then, they might think of doing something else. At least I can acknowledge Marvel actually tried.
Damn, just saw this after I made my post lol

This IP is one of the strongest in fiction.
That's not the discount coogler success but I'm not going to give him credit for making Black Panther an interesting concept. There are many different ways that it's movie could have been produced which still would have led to massive success

Marvel consistently under rates the importance and power of this franchise. And the minute they do something with it and they see massive gains like they did with coats they immediately hand over the reins as if someone did something nuanced and incredible with it.

Working with this content is a privilege for creators
NOBODY would have guessed Coogler would go in the direction he did with the story.

AVA and OTHER directors passed on BP cause they felt like were going to make another cookie cutter Marvel film.

FEIGE LOVED CREED so much that he let Ryan bring in people outside the Marvel family. 3 of the 4 people won oscars.

Black Panther very well could have been Homecoming status for all we know without Ryan. Thats not to say other directors couldnt have produced or made something as good or better. However, Ryan was given Jackie Robinson status. He was the one allowed to enter and do his own thing and once he succeeded it opened up the door for others.

    Ah, I love historical revisionism...

"Any director could have made BP great! Black Panther would have been a blockbuster no matter what!"

Sheesh. I'm actually reaching the point where I don't CARE if they recast T'Challa. No matter WHAT Coogler does, someone is going to point at some tediously trivial detail and proclaim him a hack.

Four years ago, it was "They haven't cast Shuri! The movie will bomb!"

Now it's "They are going to focus on Shuri! The movie will bomb!"

    Meh.

And the merchandising of T'challa seems easier than Wakanda.

Maybe I'm wrong but these companies have always cared about money. But this is the first time I've seen this honor and legacy thing.(I guess this situation isn't exactly like the others either)
Because the optics of a powerful black King, king of an undefeated, uncolonized nation that's more advanced then the rest of the world, doesn't sit well with them. Look at everything Chad said and did in Interviews, he was always about sticking up for his fellow cast members and looking to the next generation who would surpass him, ie the whole thing with him being fired and mbj replacing him in that tv series but the producers took his suggestions to heart and changed the Character.

Hollywood doesn't like powerful black king's and queens, but kings even more so, they feel threatened, hence why in shows like black lighting, (and BP) the lead male super was being pushed aside for a Black female character, or calls for it, then they pit men vs women and people eat it up instead of fighting for representation for both.

They are "Sad" enough to not recast T'Challa, but not so sad as to mine the franchise for all it's got and then retrofit in that they always intended to do so when that is so far from the truth.

Again this isn't a unique situation, recasts have happened with success. Spartacus is a perfect example of that. They didn't retire the Character and have Crixus take over while still calling the show spartacus.

Disney IS about greed and money still, they are just disguising it. Get that Black audience money AND take out the black King? Frakking slam dunk in their eyes. Talk bullisht of Chad in irreplaceable, this is in his honor, and Wakanda is bigger than T'Challa, and some this was always the plan bullshit, and let the people eat it up.

As for why Ryan and other's are going along? One the actors are going to risk their roles to go against the mouse (hence Mackies dumbass response) and Ryan and co were still grieving, not even 3 months after the mans passing and they are talking about keeping schedule, so there is no time to heal, and that goes for casuals as well. They did it so people would think it's The Honorable thing until time passes and they start to realize wtf a recast makes 100% more sense then this, and by that time it's too late and the sequel is already set.

People gotta see the game for what it is and the minute they made that announcement many of us here were calling the bullshit for what it was

There are a variety of reasons for that. Along with why we don't see movies about certain people like a Marcus Garvey or Ida B Wells BEYOND documentary films.

That is TOO MUCH work to do for an audience that would NITPICK IT TO DEATH. Because there are certain black misery narratives you can't sell with them. Along with getting the FUNDING. Selma, Hidden Figures and others have white folks running to invest in them.
Notice Dope, The Wood, Brown Sugar, Best Man and others have black folks investing with MAYBE 1-2 white folks.
Because a lot of these folks can NOT accept black excellence CREATED by black folks.

Some thing black excellence is tossing a few black folks in cameos in a book called Black Panther is black excellence as long as SHE has a spotlight.

NO.. this is black excellence when Panther can SNAP his fingers and Thor, Inhumans, FF, Hulk, Avengers, Young Avengers, X-Men, Alpha Flight, Ghost Rider, Blade, Spider-Man family, Doom, Wrecking Crew, GOTG, Manthing, Wanda, Dr Strange, New Warriors, Champions, Valkyries, Power Pack, Supreme Squadron and Moon Knight show up.

"While this SHOULD be a Wakandan matter-even a King of an unconquered nation realizes when the stakes are too higher for ego and pride to stand in the way of what is right."

Panther leads Marvel in an epic battle. That is black excellence-a black man leading the heroes on African ground where all LIFE began.

Yup, I don't even know what you are referring to with the Atlanta comment (sorry I'm lazy to look it up). Maybe its just an American thing.
The state of Georgia has passed laws to SUPRESS the voting rights of PEOPLE. Yes I said PEOPLE. Because it affects EVERYONE in that state. However the majority of folks that will suffer from those laws are POC. So black folks among others are taking their business out of Georgia in protest.

To put in Black Panther terms-it's like the so-called Black excellence issue some are worshipping. Wakanda is facing this HUGE threat that could hurt the world and ONLY black folks are allowed to fight it.

If they FAIL-it's not just Wakanda going down but Atlantis, USA, Canada, X-Men hideaway and so on. Yet because of EGO or PANDERING-you keep folks OUT. That is what is going on in the USA where over 300 bills targeting VOTING are being offered while ZERO bills about guns are NOT by a certain party.

So glad someone else noticed that about BL.

And don't forget Stranger Things too-there was a movement to get rid of Lucas and replace him with his sister. Who did nothing but insult him in every scene in season 2. That warrants being added to the main cast.

I gave Black Lightning a fair shot, watched every ep of its first season. But when I saw the writing on the wall (the bolded) I bounced and wished it well. I'm curious to see how Painkiller gets his spinoff, but I have a sneaking suspicion he'll get that same treatment too.

Before he was cast as Hawkman, Aldis Hodge topped list as worthy replacements to recast as T'Challa
He was on the top of my list too. He and Birdbox's, Trevante Rhodes, both would have been great. They both have the athletic build and the acting chops to play T'Challa.

If Tchalla played in a band, what instrument would he play? I'd say keyboard or bass.

Watching the latest episode of Falcon and Winter Solders with the Dora doing their thing make me wish Coogler had given us the comic book version of the Hatut Zeraze-Dogs of War. It would have been nice to see them in action, wrecking shop, in their white suits.

Unforunately, only Priest gave them a real "use" as Wakandan Secret Police... which is somethign that won't work in a BP movie unless you gonnna soil T'hcaka some more

ANd since then, no one has ever refined wtf they actually do... until they eventually got made into foot soldiers.

Makes you wonder who Coogler would’ve made the face of the HZ like how Okoye is now the definitive Dora.
