Well Coates spent 5 years on the relationship and a random writer from the x office tore it down in 1 issue. You would think it a cause for concern plus history shows that optimism doesn't work with anything BP related and the worst is usually the thing that ends up happening

Concern is 100% justified on that front. We got Coates PTSD from a garbage love story of 5 years and the next writer is immediately jumping into another love story. And going by that artwork it might be the same character that we wasted the last 5 years on. It’s not likely but this COULD be a red flag. All depends on what the artwork represents.

There’s still a lot else to be excited about though. Espionage thriller, happiness, friendship, etc. The overview of the story on Marvel’s website even says T’Challa has his own agenda while on this mission, meaning we’re getting the return of 5 steps ahead Black Panther. We’re seeing more elements of the classic T’Challa fans love in one interview/post than we did in the entire Coates era.

I believe Storm works best as T'Challa's tragic ex-love. they tried it. they wanted it. it didn't work because it couldn't.

Like it or not, them being together is part of their story now, as is his love for her. what i wrote in KiB was about his love for her, not his feelings about his wife. She's not his wife.

what's also part of the story is she treats him and Wakanada like ****, repeatedly, and he annulled their marriage. they are NOT a couple anymore.

Both franchises should move on from their couple hood but hold on to the fact that they still have deep feelings for each other. there are lots of stories in that.

there is nothing but trouble trying to keep them together in the current version of the MU. Storm is MUTANT-First. Not T'Challa first or even Wakanda first.

he is a terrible king if he pretends she is even an ally.

She's proven herself not to be. And it doesn't matter which book showed that. the point is, the events occurred. they're part of the canon now. what i wrote in KiB was about his love for her, not his feelings about his wife. She's not his wife.

    that's it.

unless Ridley writes that she is.

I wouldn't freak out too much. That has all the hallmarks of being an inventory cover.

Got the Link to the extra overview? I would like to see that for hype purposes. It would be cool to see the T'Challa whom is currently in the Avengers and had been showing up outside the solo for the past years show back up in the monthly, he has been sorely missed. I'm getting hyped at the espionage angle

Congratulations on making it past 400 pages, Black Panther Appreciation Thread! And what momentous news to commemorate that on; John Ridley taking over the Black Panther comics, no less! Gonna be cautiously optimistic for now, as the last five years were an unfortunate example of wasted potential and I don't want to get too hyped too fast. Still, I have enjoyed most of what I've read and heard from Ridley in the past, and I'll still rep his novels Those Who Walk in Darkness and What Fire Cannot Burn for a pretty good take on what might or would really happen if the collective public turned against superheroes as a whole. I guess what that means is . . . I'm in for the ride. For now.

I really hope Ridley gets on a podcast or interview and goes in depth on what his plans are. For me personally I’m most interested in the Rogues. I want to know what plans if any he has for T’Challa’s enemies.

Not a whole lot of new content, really:

"Building from the epic last chapter of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ groundbreaking multi-year Black Panther run in BLACK PANTHER (2018) #25 next week, Ridley will kick off an action-packed espionage story that will impact everything in T’Challa’s life and have ramifications for the entire Marvel Universe!

In this new ongoing series, secrets from T’Challa’s past have come back to haunt him. Fresh from returning from his adventures in space, Black Panther receives an unexpected and urgent message from a Wakandan secret agent. T’Challa must race the clock not only to save his agent, but also to keep his true agenda under wraps. Because if the truth comes out, it could cost T’Challa everything…"

I like how they are giving TNC credit for building the foundation of the story *rolls eyes*

Yea I’m gonna have to get on that and What Fire Cannot Burn sometime since I’ve heard praise for them quite a bit.

You’re probably right, I have no problem admitting I’m still scarred by Coates so spaceships and mutants can be unsettling lol. But like I’ve said, lots to be excited about because this was a great rollout and Ridley’s saying all the right things. Cautiously optimistic is how I’d describe where I’m at right now.

True. Like I said, this would be a perfect time to bring back some older rogues like Madame Slay or Baron Macabre and give them an upgrade.
