i.e as MoS said Thor 4 is done filming already and BP2 is still in production. That was going to be a problem in terms of resources.According to
@Deadline
, #Marvel's recent delays aren't a bad sign. Instead, it's due to a "domino effect going on with production and filmmakers. Some titles are contending with finishing scenarios while others are in production. This is how Disney's solving it," says the outlet.
For when my rants on the forums just aren’t enough: https://thevindicativevordan.tumblr.com/
Riley is working at Marvel's competition and on a book with BATMAN on the title. So if we get ANY non-Marvel property interviews-they are going to mention Jace Fox. Probably more than T'Challa since Jace's book is out.
I mean as of right now any hype would be Black Panther #3 the 200th issue of Black Panther. The issue that will probably determine how many of us stay with the run considering who is on the cover.
I thought it was pretty apparent after the first arc that it would be in mainstream continuity. Obviously, by that point, he had to make Who is the Black Panther work with everything else, but it seems pretty clear by the time he's crossing over with Civil War that he's writing for the main universe.
That's certainly true, but it's also very clear that Coates did a lot of his own promotion. The fact that he brought his own audience and had people in non-traditional circles talking about the book were big reasons he got hired in the first place. I'm pretty sure his first issue was significantly before the movie debuted or even had its first trailer.

I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!

I think it's fair to say that Coates' initial sales were not due to movie hype but instead were driven by his literary reputation (such as it was).
But it's also fair to say that he utterly failed to capitalize on the movie push, choosing instead to double-down on his navel-gazing polemics.
I mean, he goes out of his way to introduce a character named after the love interest in the movie, and kills her off!
At the very least he left Nakia in a position to where Ridley can revive her if he wants. But nonetheless, still stupid and unnecessary, especially when 616 Nakia got killed off which left space Nakia in a prime position to have a permanent place in T’Challas supporting cast, but nope.
T'Challa
A.K.A. The Black Panther
King of Wakanda
King of the Dead and The Champion of Bast
Two-Time Time Magazine "Person Of The Year"
Six-Time People Magazine "Sexiest Man Alive"
Coates was getting Civil War Panther hype, not solo movie hype. People tend to get that confused.
first CW trailer came out November 2015
They used the solo movie to push Coates run though. They were giving free copies away from issue #1 at the theaters.
Coates was a huge deal when he was signed to black panther. His novels + writer at the atlantic + he was getting tons of interviews and stuff on traditional media shows. He was a rather big "get" for a comic book. Too bad he can't write comic books lol.
I have no idea what Coates is doing now

I'm strictly talking about his first arc. Afterwards it's clear he was writing the continuity, bit it's like you said, he had to make WitBP work with the main continuity. I'm saying, had he known from day 1 that he was writing Canon, would WitBP been vastly different or mostly unchanged.
Oh sweet Bast don't even remind me of that bullisht. He has a whole arc for Storm with T'Challa, and Wakandans encouraging her, worshiping her and praying to her to get the big win against adversary. Then for T'Challa in space? No power ups, he gives speeches and somehow erects a giant ass statue of Nakia in the middle of an invasion, doesn't Solo Erik as it's a group effort and by the time he does kill N'Jadaka, it was more akin to putting a dying animal out of its misery.
Finally he inherits the empire and gets talked down to by Zenzi Bast, another character who was handed a major power up even though they didn't deserve it and we're a villain for 95% of the book, and she goes on to chastise and blame him for all the troubles and the evil Empire while he navel gazes as the stuff just fell into his lap and are now his problems that he reluctantly takes up. No character arc, he started as a reluctant king and ends as a reluctant emperor...
All the asspats in the world can't fix the utter Trainwreck of Coates that will NOT age well and likely will be remembered as a stain like DW
To be fair to Hudlin,
Priest left the next writer in a HORRIFIC spot

Not really?
T'Challa was back on the throne, and wearing the habit in Avengers (in those days, the roles were separate). Kasper had willingly given up the BP mantle, and was the new White Tiger. The only real dangler was the Killpanther situation, and any decent writer could have dealt with that in the first few pages.
