In my town there's an offensive statue of Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea. Native Americans protested about it and all they got was a plaque placed on the side, that cant be seen unless you walk up to it. And the statue is in the middle of the street.

Maybe they can put a plaque on that giant statue Tchalla was talking in front of.

Honestly, this entire story was like, an X-Men space story that actually uses Black faces for its cast, which is more than any X-Men comic her ever has. They should have let Coates just write an X title from the get go.

Coates basically wrote a 5+ year slave story full of misogyny and self loathing with Wakanda as the villain. Then he tries to reverse it and make the NuWakanda Empire the villain and has everyone rally around Wakanda Prime to stop the invaders from colonizing Earth, ironically enough, the exact thing he turned Wakanda Prime into.

Then, T'Challa calls in the Just Us League with a roster that shows up out of nowhere with no kind of investment in the story. No white hero shows up to help save Wakanda. The reason that no other heroes showed up is because they were too busy taking on the real threat over in King in Black.

So now in what must feel like a very strange story, T'Challa must rally the troops using a stirring speech about someone that no one knows anything about and lead the Just Us League against NuKillmonger and NuWakanda.

The only people who came out looking worse than T'Challa are Shuri, who told a couple of rape victims that they should have been proud to take one for the team and Ramonda who threatened to kill the women who killed the rapists. This will go down as the worst era of a BP solo.

I will gladly take Don McGregor's T'Challa all day and everyday over this incredibly frakked up version. And I can't stand Don McGregor's BP.

I’ll never understand the hate some of y’all got for McGregor. He’s not my favorite T’Challa but he laid the foundation for a lot of the mythic as we know it today and he did leave us with a lot of great gems of characterization for Black Panther. Coates should never have been compared to him in the first place because even the worst of Jungle Action is leagues above the entirety of the last five years.

if it was just Falcon, "The Crew," Vibraxas, Kasper, QDJ, Blade, Voodoo, Spectrum, Blue Marvel... sure. Contrived... a bit... but whatever. Those are T'challa's friends and allies.

But Rage? Iron Heart? Miles? Cloak? And the rest of the "throw int he black people!" crew? That doesn't make sense. Especially when none of them speak. They are just there int he background because they are black lol.

If you are scraping the bottom on the barrell with Rage, it makes no sense for T'challa's actually allies to show up.

Hell... where are the Agents of Wakanda lol?

(of course, this still could be set in the Secret Empire timeline, so maybe a lot of this is moot because of that. Who knows.... )

T'challa was beaten up torture porn style. It is a little much at times.

I will never talk bad about McGregor in regards to whether he liked T'challa and Wakanda. He obviously does. Just his brand of story telling doesn't click with me at all.

With McGregor, I am critiquing his storytelling choices. With Coates, I am questioning EVERYTHING. it si a different level of critique lol

Yet WE are wrong for not following the BORG collective and accepting it. Because this is an appreciation thread and we have to appreciate whatever mess is tossed.
