nuBaku gonna walk into the Jabari with all this futuristic tech and Jabari peeps gonna freak out and call him a witch.

The thing with Okoye is we mostly only see her in a professional capacity. We don’t get to see her in those quieter character building moments that develop her relationship with T’Challa that flesh both of them out. Considering how often she appears with T’Challa I guess you can say they’re close, but we have no sense of what they’re dynamic is like when they’re not on missions. Still, she has a much better relationship with T’Challa than say M’Baku or Akili.
here's how I would do T'Challa and Okoyes relationship. They have been friends since early/ preteens. T'Challa meets Okoye when was initiated onto the DM program a few years after T'Chakas death. Okoye excells in the program and is quickly rising on rank, to the point where she is almost bored given how well she can fight and beating all her fellow DM and even some of the older members, for this, ontop of her very strict and serious demeanor, makes her a bit of a outcast and loner.

When she meets T'Challa, he enters the facility to explore the different functions of the Wakandan military ( this is part of his own training on preparing for the unknown, is knowing his resources and how they function) and wants to see a demonstration of the orders capabilities first hand.

Okoye is completely disinterested as she finds not a waste that of time and feels that putting on a performance for the royals is wasted energy she could be spending on training (in her mind she believes T'Challa is just spoiled and catered to and doesn't like the thought of having to protect someone like that). He is impressed by Okoye and asks her for a sparring match, and Okoye, for the first time, loses a match, quite handily to T'Challa, as he goes onto explain how he was able to best her due to flaws on her form and exploiting those weaknesses. He does this however on a respectful way and offers her tips and advice. He isn't this spoiled arrogant person she thought and she gains alot of respect for him, while also becoming a regular sparring partner for him, thus this leads to how Okoye is the greatest warrior in Wakanda, second only to T'Challa himself (who she has never actually beaten in a serious sparring match before or after him becoming the BP)

So T'Challa is the only person she will soften around, and will joke with (though this is more akin to the humor we saw non the BP solo movie) and they have a deep mutual respect for one another

It was always kinda balanced though. In Panther rage or was mainly W'kabi and Monica that he had the biggest interactions with. so having Shuri, Okoye, LI, M'Baku and Akili/Kasper as the core cast he associates with is pretty balanced imo

I can see that. It maybe would've if those characters more consistently appeared

What's the current official status of Black Panther and Storm's relationship in the 616 MU?

Depends on if Coates is ever going to time stamp his run.

But, best guess right now is that they are not 100% together. That is based on Marauders when she showed up and jacked the sword. I think that is the "newest" appearance continuity wise

I'm not at all familiar with Ridley's comic books and while really good, Cabal's art doesn't excite me. That said...I'm happy for a new Black Panther book so I'll wait and see what more they tell us and preview before making any judgments and decisions.

Coates’ story ends before Marauders #13, so that book sets the tone for how Storm and T’Challa’s romance is going. I highly doubt they continue the relationship in this relaunch. It was made perfectly clear that T’Challa effectively banished Storm from Wakanda lol. She’s not allowed back unless he gives her permission and she has a damn good reason, they’re 100% broken up even if T’Challa still thinks about her well-being as we saw in the KIB tie-in. Unless in the final issue of his run Coates references Marauders and has T’Challa rekindle things with Storm the ship is dead again and hopefully for good lol.

In the relaunch I expect there to be some reference to how T’Challa and Storm broke up due to her obligations to Krakoa, since if you’re reading BP and not Marauders you wouldn’t know why Ororo isn’t in the book anymore. We’re probably gonna have bachelor T’Challa for a few stories and then like Coates, Ridley or whoever will introduce a different love interest. I’m holding out hope he revamps Monica but if not Nightshade is right there. Seeing as Marvel has killed 2 versions of Nakia so far I don’t expect to see another one but who knows. But I’m hoping this is the first BP run to actually invest in someone besides Storm.

There’s virtually no other way to read the story. You catch your girl putting the beats on your sister and stealing a family heirloom, tell her to not come back to your house and block her on social media. Y’all ain’t together anymore lol. T’Challa doing all that worrying **** in KIB is because he thought she was dead, not because they’re still a couple.

Coates would have to do hefty rewrites in this final issue to straighten out the romance after that story. There’s always the possibility Ridley tries to bring them back together but I strongly doubt it since Storm’s being made a priority in the X-office and unlike when the Krakoa era first started they probably don’t feel obligated to share the character. The ship is dead, bring back Beyoncé lol.

They need Storm broken up from Panther anyway so they can be ready to pivot when MCU X-men are ready to go.

With T'chadwick gone, that small chance there would be storm in BP2 is gone too. No reason to hint at it anymore.

That’s true. But even with T’Challa gone I still think there’s a possibility she shows up in BP2. Maybe at his funeral (assuming he gets killed off) or just in an end credit scene where they reference how she’s an “old friend”. But T’Challa being gone almost guarantees she ends up with Wolverine so hopefully once that happens on the big screen the comics synergize and permanently keep those characters together. That way T’Challa can finally be free to be with someone else.
