Seeing T'Challa from the 70's and 80's comment on his place in the team would be fascinating.

But I agree he's not the best model for the kind of characters Ridley would gravitate towards. We'd be far more likely to see T'Challa positioned in a role similar to John Stewart, the black guy who "makes it" to the big leagues and is seen as part of the "establishment" superhero community by someone like Luke Cage or White Tiger. Which could also be interesting. Shang-Chi would also be a fun character to explore. Maybe someone like Warpath too.
I think with T'Challa it would be tough cuz "The Other Side" was very much about being a minority in America in real time and BP is literally a head of state. And his portrayal in the comics over the last a couple decades ( or at least since Priest) has been as an equal if not superior to Stark, Cap, and Thor. What might be interesting though is in digging into that brief period where he was high school teacher in Harlem.

Having said that, in real life back in the 60's-70's there was a strong Black Pride movement where African Americans reconnected with our African roots. It would be cool to see how Sam Wilson and Luke Cage might have looked up to Black Panther in the early 70's.

It took minutes to decide? Yeah that pretty much confirms the decision was an emotional knee jerk reaction rather than a well thought out and calculated one. And we see currently see how that’s going.

Ehhh Nate was trying to Kevin Feige funny and failed. The 616 universe is the main comic timeline, not the movie. Surprised supposed comic fans didnt pick up on that.

    Looking at the comments

I understand the emotional reasons behind it. It does not seem like a good idea. The Game tried to carry on without Melanie and Derwin. Transformers tried it without Optimus Prime. Heroes tried to come back without Peter and Sylar. It was all trainwrecks.
I think the Game lasted 4 years without those two.

I guess this guy never heard of Star Trek: The Next Generation- Star Trek Discovery that all out lasted Kirk's Star Trek.

And Dr Who and Power Rangers seem to survive without the originals.

Guess what is trying to tend #NoTChallaNoTicket

I don't disagree, to me an equally big part of "The Other Side" was the sense that we were exploring characters that were on the margins of the superhero community, which is the angle they could play with for T'Challa. Sure he's been an Avenger for decades but as he himself has alluded, he never felt like a full member and on some level never got his fair due. It'd be interesting to see his thoughts on that in light of the reveal he initially joined just to spy on them and has always wondered why Tony never invited him to hang lol.

But yea he'd work as an excellent counterpoint to a Luke Cage, Blue Marvel, or Falcon since he's definitely more of an establishment figure as far as black heroes go. And as you said, T'Challa's a king so he's not a true outsider in an institutional sense even if he is black. A Black Pride, afrocentrist approach to their relationship with T'Challa could be really compelling. Especially Blue Marvel because he could probably identify with the idea of having to step into the spotlight and reveal who he truly is, mirroring T'Challa opening up Wakanda. And we already know Luke has mixed feelings on Africans per Hudlin.

Got damn Van Lathan must read here with asking that question.

I get Coogler's emotion at the time of his death. However, he now takes a lot of blame for not even revisiting the idea.

No, Van, this DOES NOT put the #RecastTChalla conversation to rest at all. Did they consider:
    - the impact of killing off T'Challa for a third time?
    - how Chadwick's family felt?
    - the effect on kids when they revisit T'Challa's death???

    It's not cathartic, it's triggering.

Maybe it was too soon for BP2, but the character should continue. The world needs T’Challa.

Jemele has 1.4 million followers. Yet this tweet only got a little under 500 likes so far. More people need to get on board.

I mean yeah, within minutes they decided no recast... Like... Whatever I don't even care anymore let them deal with the foolishness of their decision.

What's interesting to see is in the comments how there is a VAST majority who are saying this is such a bad idea and why a Recast should happen. They are fighting an uphill battle and the Recast side is growing stronger and stronger and will continue to do so especially now that production has stopped, the movie won't be released till late 2022 and it's just going to make even less sense to kill and and have people have to go through that isht all over again.

People are getting on then about how we can have multiple Spidermen in one movie but can't get the franchise holder in his own.. they are setting themselves up for a big fail

Yeah.. bit the movie isn't coming out till late next year, IF even then given the Letitia situation, Which could push it to 2023, and then what? Your going to think people are going to look at them killing T'Challa off nearly 3 years after Chads passing as some beautiful thing? Nah it will be seen as tone deaf and trying to exploit and profit off Chadwick's passing. ALOT can change from now till 2022/2023 in regards to movie success. That bar is going to climb again

    Exactly.

As we get closer to the movie, more and more people are going to come out and question Marvel’s rationale here.

Treating black characters as simply background noise to the “exotic land of their origin” is really going to generate a lot of ill will.

I love the movie. Think its one of the GOAT comic book movies ever.

However, in hindsight it was almost too good. Wakanda was revealed too early. Supporting characters were made too strong.

Can you imagine them talking that explore the world stuff with a character like Deadpool? Even with a character like Hellboy? With a character like Blade in his films?

You just cant. Their films didnt really make room for it. And the one that did for Blade 3 was terrible.

I caught it and thought he sees it as the "normal" MCU timeline possibly leaving room for a variant. Cuz obviously Boseman has never been "616" Tchalla.
