Default Outside of General Zod, who is your favorite Phantom Zoner?

While I am a big fan of General Dru-Zod, we have to remember that there are plenty of other Kryptonian inmates in the Phantom Zone that have been a threat to Superman over the years. Who has been your favourite Zoner over the years?

NOTE; while I've only put 7 of the most popular Zoners, I know they aren't the only ones. Anyone else I've made an "Others" option (feel free to comment below on other Zoners that are intriguing)

Faora is cool don’t get me wrong, but Xa being completely insane really makes him enjoyable for me

Didn't Mon-El spend a long time in the zone?

    I'll vote for him.

    Mon-El, definitely.
Xa-Du, if we are talking criminals.

    Xa-Du.

And to give the DCEU credit, Snyder's Faora was pretty fucking boss.

Xa-Du and Faora are legitimately tremendous, but I've absolutely gotta give this one to Quex-Ul / Charlie Kweskill. The idea is just so good - a Kryptonian who leaves the Zone, wants revenge on Jor-El, but still won't let innocent people get hurt, who is willing to make peace with Kal-El when given cause to do so, and who upon losing his powers, just gets a normal job.

If anything the big downside to Quex-Ul is just that he didn't stick around as a recurring member of the Superman cast after that first story! But "great ideas that aren't used to their fullest potential are still great ideas," after all!

Oh yeah. And the other downside to Quex is just John Byrne using him as basically a stand-in for Non, a problem that still haunts Faora to this day as well, given that she's pretty much just straight up become Ursa, but which I think is perhaps more egregious for Quex-Ul.

    Still, Ursa for me!

Okay, if Mon-El counts, that changes everything, as he's in my top 20 DC characters full stop.

Assuming we're just talking about Kryptonian zone exiles, and not just anyone who happened to be in the Zone, Quex-Ul, but as soon as we open it up to include the Man of Valor, it's gotta be Mon.

    If Mon-El counts, probably him.

Otherwise, I want to say Faora because I think she's a great villain for Clark if removed from Zod and Non...

But goddammit, Xa-Du is just too damn good a visual alone. It's gotta be Super Ghost Rider by way of the mummy.

If Ursa is going to get replaced by Faora, may it be Snyder's. She's more intimidating than Zod was.

Is there any real difference between Snyder’s Faora and Ursa? Far as I can tell it’s the same character with a different name.

He more or less melded them together, yeah. In modern takes, Faora is just Ursa but a little meaner. They stripped her more interesting qualities.

To be fair, Faora is a cooler name.

The Phantom Zone (1982) is a definite favorite & has always piqued my interest whenever brought up during casual conversation:

Among the many inmates, My Top (2) Two faves would be...

    • Mon-El

    • Faora

Yeah, Classic Faora wasn't really anything like Ursa, she was more of an independent serial killer type character; she was interesting and unique in her own right.

Whereas Modern Faora is Exactly Ursa more often than not. Zack Snyder definitely made her look exactly like Ursa, which carried over into the comics, but I really think the trend of "Faora, Henchman of Zod" started with John Byrne and Zaora.

I really think most of the Phantom Zone criminals are interesting and unique villains in their own right! Some of the best that pre-Crisis Superman villains had to offer! It honestly sucks that they've all gotten grandfathered into the "Zod Squad" and lost a lot of that individuality. I mean I dig Zack Snyder's movies but I bet it never occurred to him to make Nam-Ek a mutant "antibiotic man" created by unethical experimentation on endangered animals! No, he's a big beefy bruiser guy and that's all they did with him!

yeah most of the kryptonians in that continuity are little more than names since they're all bit parts in Zod's story.
