This looks like the cube that Manchester Black used to transport Superman and Jon to Dinosaur Island where they met Captain Storm from The Losers. I'm guessing the part of the solicit that refers to something from Jon's past is tied into this cube.

Dinosaur Island is a good guess. Tomasi does have a fondness for Sgt. Rock and those type of characters, which is why he chose to focus on him in his last issue of Superman when he was kicked off the title.

So, just for fun, I did one of those "Hunger Games Simulator" things with a bunch of DC characters (Tim won, BTW)



There were A LOT of surprisingly self aware scenarios, despite them all being randomly generated (Kaldur dying of thirst, Conner and M'Gann hooking up, etc) . But I think the one that really got me was this:



Damn this had me wishing even more that they had met sooner and like...actually gave a damn about each other. This was precious lol

...And then they both proceeded to die, one after the other, not long after they formed an alliance XD
