DC’s Power Couple – Superman and Wonder Woman

"Let’s discuss the love story of the one Superman who only ever loved Wonder Woman, the original Superman from the New-52.

In an iconic comic book, Justice League #12, Wonder Woman and the Justice League must confront the spirits of their deceased loved ones. Wonder Woman sees the spirit of Steve Trevor. However, it turns out that these aren’t truly spirits, but rather demonic parasites that feed off of pain.

Wonder Woman discovers that Steve Trevor is still alive, and goes to visit him in the hospital. And yet, filled with pain and anger, Steve lashes out at Wonder Woman. He expresses his frustration with the fact that superheroes could never really understand what soldiers and mortal men go through. Wonder Woman tries to understand, but he wants to be left alone. So she leaves.

Later, Superman and Wonder Woman talk on the roof of a building. She explains how lonely she truly feels. She has fought for the World of Men out of love and compassion. She has tried to understand what Steve has gone through, but he simply couldn’t understand her. There is no one like her. Except for, maybe, Superman himself.

They are both from other worlds; Krypton and Themiscyra. And because of that, they both feel alien. Their superhero sides are never truly understood by others. They have both lost and outlived so many of their loved ones. Really, they are both some of the most powerful beings on the planet, and there is no telling what they could do or who they could be together. And so, feeling less alone together, they kiss.

Superman and Wonder Woman have shared kisses and dates in the comics before, but never a relationship like this one. They were truly getting to know each other as both Clark and Diana, and Superman and Wonder Woman. They were able to support each other in ways that truly no one else could. In order to explore the dynamic between this super-power couple, DC Comics ran a series called Superman/Wonder Woman.

The series not only explored the relationship of these two heroes, but truly gave an opportunity to highlight a functioning super-relationship. One of the greatest difficulties of heroes being together is that their lifestyles usually force them into deciding between being a hero and being with the one they love. Superman and Wonder Woman didn’t have that problem. They only supported each other. Even when Superman lost his powers, Wonder Woman fought alongside him. He was still Kal-El. He was still her Superman.

Wonder Woman told Superman that, “if one of us can fly, both of us can fly.” They were a team like no other, able to defeat any villain and conquer any conundrum. And though their relationship goes through trials and tribulations, as Superman is mutated into a beast quite similar to Doomsday, they still rely on each other. This power couple fought side by side until the end — because it does end. Superman dies. And Wonder Woman mourns.

There is a flicker of hope in Wonder Woman’s heart when an alternate reality Superman arrives. But he is not the same Clark Kent. He’s the Clark Kent that loves and marries Lois Lane. He is a stranger to Wonder Woman. And Wonder Woman is a stranger to him.

They still make an incredible team (read DC Comics’ Trinity), and love and compassion still drive their heroism, but the love between them is gone."

Still some promotion love for the Jean Paul Gaultier perfume 3 years after its original release

"It was the year 2017 when one of the world’s most recognized fashion icons launched its superhero range of Eau de Fraiche frangrances

For some reason, they went unnoticed here and it still makes me wonder, why? I won’t go into the debate of as to why a premium fragrance brand would like to do a co-branding activity with one of the leading companies in comic book industry, however, I would ask my geek brethren as to why they wouldn’t want to have fragrances that have classic comic book art all over them.

Unlike their American counterpart, Europeans (especially the French and the Belgians) recognize comic book art as an art form and hats off to @jeanpaulgaultier that they opted for bintage comic book art of Jose Louis Garcia Lopez, the quintessential artist for the bronze era of DC Universe

As far as WW3 goes... yes, agreed on toning down the cheese. Balance is key.
There are already a few early rumors about what might be considered for WW3 and who might appear.
But yeah...who knows...just hope it’s good and we get something that shows Supes and WW better. WW took a step back with WW84 a bit... so pushing for better.

Yeah, I heard these too. But it's still to early even for talking about rumors. The script is in early development, I guess. We'll see when the movie will enter in production.

Yeah, some problems they had in both divisions (comics and movies) are similar. It was coincidental but the multiverse route they want to embrace in both as solution seems to be coordinate.

Even though there’s a few discrepancies here, the bold part is why SMWW is such a unique, modern, “real” relationship so many continue to gravitate toward.
There was still so much more to explore with them and such a missed opportunity when it was such a solid book both story and sales wise.

I believe it’s like other product distributions that can be either a month to a year late. It’s kind of like how books are, JPG perfume set is quite a success. The “his/her” branding with smww truly is a big plus. Shame DC/WB can’t see this but other companies do. 🙃
