Are Hellboy's non-canon stories worth any reading?
Hellboy: Weird Tales seems to be collected in 2 trade paperback editions and there are some quality writers and artists here. How do they stack up to Mignola's canon stories?

Like any anthology they are something of a mixed bag. Some of the stories are so good they're canon as far as I'm concerned: Eric Powell's "Midnight Cowboy" from #2, Tommy Lee Edward's "Love Story" from #7 and "Hot" by Randy Stradley with art by Seung Kim are some of my favorites. While others like like "Abe Sapien: Star of the BPRD" and "Down time" are so tonally disconnected from Mignola's style that the less said about them the better.
