Not sure when they started ... I know they added some prints to their statues. I guess they've branched out to prints by themselves.

I see why Ewing picked Doom as his mystery character.

    spoilers:
Considering Dormammu is the enemy, Wiccan and Doom are the most likely heavy lifters.

If you guys like the latest of Ewing's Guardians, you all HAVE to read Ewing's SWORD, it's got Doom's biggest presence at the Hellfire Gala with what is sure to be a classic Doom and Cap interaction.

Won't spoil it, but check out SWORD #6.

I was disappointed that there was no follow up to Doom being in Rocket's body. I guess he went straight to the Hellfire Gala. Was there any other scene of Doom at the Gala this week?

I did like Sword even though things were getting a bit eye rollish with the X folks lording it over things. I hope we see more of Doom and Cap next issue but it does say Doom will be having dinner with an old friend in #7. I was disappointed there was no interaction with Doom and Magneto but Erik had....other people to meet with. But getting back to Cap, there really has been very few meetings over the 60 years of the MU. There was the one shot battle with Cap's Kooky Quartet in Avengers #25. There is a forgotten one in Captain America #132 where MODOK wants to attack Cap but he doesn't want to do in directly. He goes to Doom and challenges him to create a robot double of Bucky. I don't think Cap ever found out that it was Doom's creation that almost fooled him. There's also Secret War's finale of course where instead of a duel with Reed the powered up Doom is confronted by Cap.

Another meeting that I had to shake the cobwebs to remember was in issue #452 of Mark Waid's run on Captain America. IIRC Cap might have been in his Nomad phase or simply gave up the Captain America costume for some other reason. He needs to foil a plot by Machinesmith to assassinate the President of the United States (who looks like Clinton). But Cap is in Moldavia and needs transport to the U.S. He goes to neighboriing Latveria and talks Doom into letting him have one of his aircraft. When he is granted his request, he also notices that Doom has provided a Captain America costume in the aircraft. Funny how Doom just happened to have one laying around on such short notice. ;-)

Doom and Cap's other big interaction before this is of course the classic JMS-JRJR issue "Doomed Affairs" in Amazing Spider-Man #50 (Vol.2).

Ah, you're right. I did forget about that one. I thought it was a bit strange that Cap and Sam were working in disguise as Doom's escorts at the airport. For the most part I liked the JMS/JR jr 's run on ASM... until One More Day. But that's another matter.

For my money, Super-Villain Team-Up will always be a CLASSIC:

Thanks for bringing that one up. And congratulations again K7P5V on winning the weekly covers contest on the Community board Another one that slipped my mind. I like that Cap and Doom had to work as a team against the Red Skull who had taken over Latveria...again. He had briefly succeeded in Astonishing Tales #5

For the short time that SVTU was on Marvel's roster it had a variety of authors. For this arc Bill Mantlo had taken over and I always thought he was the best. Archie Goodwin was the editor on this with Bob Hall on the art. The cover for issue #10 is one of the best of the series and back in those days Marvel didn't do cover credits on the opening splash page. Many times it was the same artist who did the interior but not always. SVTU had a number of talents working on it and no one artist or writer stayed on it all the way to its end. But I did find out from the Grand Comics Database at comics.org that Gil Kane did the pencils for the cover of issue #10 and there were some touch ups by John Romita Sr. on the faces. According to their research, the credits were mentioned in the letters page on SVTU #12. IIRC SVTU stayed a bi-monthly comic, as did Astonishing Tales which had Doom's first solo series shared with Ka-Zar.

In issue #10, Cap and Doom crash land in Latveria when the Red Skull, who has taken over the Castle Doom, shoots them down. He also uses a shrink ray on them, which Doom had used on the Red Skull back in the Astonishing Tales story. The two reluctant allies take turns saving each other from peril when first Doom is attacked by a snake and then later Cap is overwhelmed by rush of water through the tunnel system of the castle

I also liked the multi-part story in Marvel Team Up involving the Scarlet Witch, the Vision and Doom that was also written by Bill Mantlo with Sal Buscema on the art. Marvel recently collected that part of the Marvel Team Up run in their Masterworks line. Unfortunately Bill Mantlo is still suffering from the effects of a hit and run accident from about 20 years ago. Another tragic blow came when Bill's brother and longtime caregiver Michael Mantlo passed away in the summer of 2020. I have not read any updates on the Bill Mantlo's status and I hope he is being cared for. I know Marvel / Disney provided some assistance at one point. He was the creator of Rocket Racoon and I don't know if there was a settlement made in regards to that.

Speaking of SVTU, I found this image of an auction for an unused cover. for issue #7...

The Shroud was a creation of Steve Englehart and it seems he just never caught on. I don't think he's been in anything significant in a long time. The artists are Jim Starlin and Alan Weiss

Thanks, Iron Maiden. Also, glad to read some praise for Bill Mantlo.
Certain critics can be cruel, but I always found Mantlo's writing quite enjoyable:

Me too. He is one of my favorite writers from that era. IMO he "rescued" SVTU from Steve Englehart . I think for its' short run, SVTU must have had the most writers for one title

    issue #1 - #2: Tony Isabella
    issue #3: Jim Shooter
    issue #4: Bill Mantlo
    issue #5 - #8: Steve Englehart
    issue #9 - #14: Bill Mantlo

Mantlo's work on 9 through 14 IMO are the best part of this run. It also includes a crossover story with the Champions #16. And if I'm not mistaken issue #14 is John Byrne's first Doctor Doom cover. Here is is without the masthead, etc.

I must have clicked the wrong video...they were only talking about the Star Wars editions coming out in omnibus form next April.

    Thanks for posting that Reviresco!
I must have clicked the wrong video...they were only talking about the Star Wars editions coming out in omnibus form next April. I'll see if I can find that one. Sometimes youtube will move on to the next video in a link.

My guess would be in addition to Books of Doom, a lot of his solo series and one shots done in chronological order starting probably with maybe his origin in FF annual #2. Then maybe Marvel Superheroes #20, the Astonishing tales issues 1-8, the SVTU stuff and maybe the Priest story in Marvel Double Shots #2, although that one might be overlooked.

I posted a cover from Books of Doom in the weekly cover contest on the community board and a couple of posters mentionted how Books of Doom had only the one printing as a TPB and the prices on Amazon and other places are crazy..... $700 for a TPB in new condition!
I wonder what they would pick for the cover?

Ooops. I fixed the video link. Not sure how that happened ...

And wow! Had no idea that Books of Doom was going for that much. Though I thought it was also available as a hardcover?

    They usually have two covers,

I'm guessing it will have the Doom stuff from the Marvel Masterworks Rarities, Brubaker's Books of Doom, the Bendis Infamous Iron Man run, and the Cantwell run. Maybe Triumph and Torment and Emperor Doom? It would be cool if they also included the Chuck Dixon Doom and Emperor Doom mini-series, but I doubt they would.

I would love it if they did do a chronological collection of major Doom appearances. Maybe if they do an Epic Collections, we'd get that.

Thanks, now I can see it. Since they are teasing one of LaRocca's covers from Cantwell's Doom series, I have to think it's in there. I already have the 2 TPBs. The Infamous Iron Man series would be a good edition but they would have to include the issues of Invincible Iron Man that tie in. After Reed heeled his face in SW, Doom's first appearance was in Bendis's Invincible Iron Man and then when Infamous Iron Man was winding up, some of it crosses over to Invincible Iron Man again. With a character like Doom whose story is frequently told in other titles, it would be good to have it all in one volume.

I'd like to see an Epic collection to because the Omnibus is so bulky. I would have to make room somehow since my bookcase is nearly filled up.
