Hmmm. Not sure I entirely agree with that. Abira was a soldier, and she didn't hesitate to give Namor a hard time ... but she was never a noble. And she seemed to be reluctantly in love / caring for Namor.

That's not true! It's hard to keep up with 80 years of Namor.

As Doombot said, Abira was in the last Namor ongoing we had, Namor the First Mutant. She was part of an frontier patrol called the Tridents. She and Namor got together, but it was a bit antagonistic, especially at first. Eventually, to save Atlantis, she chose to become the Royal Logomancer (kind of a sorcerer), which apparently meant a transformation that made one celibate. So, she's allegedly still around, but since this position was first mentioned in this series, I'm not so sure it took.

Really. I'm surprised you didn't like the series. It took place exclusively in Atlantis and had a good bit of world building. Granted, some of it was questionable, i.e. the Logomancer.
Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?

I'm a bit sketchy on the Heroes Reborn era, as I wasn't reading then. However, I have a hard time believing Namor would leave Atlantis in the hands of Krang.

In the Jae Lee / Haras / Byrne era I think they also had a Council of Three, and I think it was Grand Vizier Vashti, Namorita and Warlord Seth?

IIRC, in the Silver / Bronze Age run there used to be a council, that consisted of a Warlord, a Priest, and a Noble. I guess Namor had to represent the People. ;p Although, Vashti could fill that position, since he was introduced as a kelp farmer.

I mostly don't remember Namor in the original HR. (that means no Namor Sue action, LOL!)

But weren't the characters just sort of displaced - no time to form a council before you get zapped away.

I'm not sure. I think Namor's had a Council of Three in place since the Byrne days, if not before.

Ha! You know in any re-imagining of the FF there's going to be Namor and Sue action. ;p

    And a Thing battle.

And this is the run where we got the gorgeous Jim Lee Namor on a Throne.

Oh I meant like her character seemed to me to be a mix, she has the soldier part from Andromeda and the fact she loved Namor from Dorma. Sorry, it just felt like the writer was trying to make a new character that embodied parts of those two.

The first mutant series is good imo. I don't like most of the art but I did like the addition of the Logomancer. Atlantis has had royal sorcerers in the past or at least court sorcerers and scientists but we never got as in depth as Logomancy, I like the idea of science and magic mixed up for this form of power. I also like that Abira wasn't killed off for Namor's manpain. Sorry we had 2 dead wives, 1 dead lover, and I don't need more fictional women killed off for Namor to be sad about plot. I really enjoyed Namor's look into his past and how he governs Atlantis. Krangs heelturn was excellent and honestly I do like Krang hanging around as a manipulative schemer.

Also I would love if they could stop introducing Namor's son just to have them be killed off or timeline erased, Kamar, Abira and Namor's son from first mutant. :/

Speaking of Sons has anyone else kept up with Prince Ove? He appears in Captain Marvel as Amora and Namor's alternate universe son who came to the main timeline. What are y'all's thoughts on him?

I'll have to re-read it, but I remember being so turned off by the art that I couldn't get into it at all. I read each issue once because it was new Namor and I had to, but nothing about it stuck in my mind.

Oh yes, I remember these issues being released vividly when I was younger. It was such a huge deal that Lee was working on the Fantastic Four, there was so much buzz, Wizard magazine, all that hype. The famous Namor splash page, the famous Doom splash page and the infamous Sue's ass kneeling in front of The Thing double spread. It was quite epic at the time lol. These Lee issues are also the origin of the Doom with melted flesh over his eye(s) Something I've never been a fan of.

It was heartbreaking he didn't do the entire run, just the first 4 or 6 issues, I cant remember. At the time it was so amazing seeing the famous old origins of the Four, Doom, Namor and Black Panther all redone by a modern superstar like Lee. I've since come to view Lee is a bit overrated, but at the time he was like a comic god.

    OMG! That's beyond amazing!

The new Jim Lee commission was amazing. But this statue?!! Wow! I've never seen it before. Who puts this out? Is it a custom?

    And it has two heads!!!

Love the display of truly a high quality themed collection.

Oh wait. That acrylic block with the logo! Did you customize that? I haven't seen that either. It's perfect attention to detail.

I didn't read all of them, but I think the Jim Lee FF was the best looking of the bunch, and it holds up surprisingly well even today -- unlike Rob Liefield's Thor and Cap. He's great at the cover and pin up and big page spreads, but not as good at the less posed panel work. I may be biased, but I think his story telling panel work was better on that one shot he did for Marvel Comics Presents. The wordless Dying in Paradise.

This was the biggest weakness of the book, IMO. They got a well known, if somewhat polarizing, artist to start the book off, which looked like editorial were supporting it, but I don't think Olivetti did more than two issues in a row. And mid-way, he was off entirely and the book was a revolving door of unknown artists. Very disappointing.

I was torn about Olivetti's art myself. I mean, his figures were solid, but they were floating around in a nothing background of blue, for the most part.

Yes, I love the two heads!

I think the one with the wavy hair looks a little better on the figure but both heads (and the figure itself) are wonderful!

    Great score, Subby1939!

I didn't know about, he should be powerfull for sure, but Amora? She is pretty selfish, greddy, treacherous and a kind of serial rapist. Namor kink for blondes is bigger than I thought to ignore all that, and fall for her.

I think that Namor overeacted with Kamar, yes the boy killed some people, discriminate humans and tried to rule atlantis. Just Like his dad!

The other son is Llyrion but even when they fought I'm not sure he is dead, as far as I remember we never see the body. But being honest betwen Kamar and Llyrion I would prefer Kamar back.

The AU verse they get together basically has the whole end of the world thing going on and they hooked up. Lol.

Llyron isn't Namor's son though. I just checked to be sure, Llyra impersonating Phoebe slept with Namor's half brother (Namor 1990 #48), got pregnant, slept with Namor while pretending to be Sue, then Namor confronted her for r*ping him because he never consented to sleeping with her and Llyra lied about it being his child when at the time they had the Infertile canon going on. Namor knew it wasn't his child. The Atlanteans were taking stupid pills and allowed Llyron to take claim to the throne. *rolls eyes* Anyways, stupid writing aside, Llyron is Namor's nephew not son.

And the son from First Mutant was never named.

I wish we had more backstory and a chance for Kamar to have been a part of Sub-Mariner lore. But my one gripe is that Kamar would have been 3/4ths Atlantean and should have had blue skin.

Prince Ove is in the main 616 verse now so I wonder if Namor will ever meet his AU son.
