^^ One of my favorite sequences from Johns's run. Back when he actually interested in writing about Hal.

"Never follow charismatic leaders" sounds very relevant these days.

It's been relevant for centuries. Sad part is noone seems to have learned yet. Would they listen to "uncle Hal" of all people.

For some reason I always thought Geoff wrote that scene with the intent to be adapted down the line. It's such a cool moment.

To be fair the more I see this kind of thing the more I realize just how little I actually know of this character's overall history. How was I ever that naive to believe that he would have some permanent place amongst the pantheon of DC's premier heroes I'll never know.

He's been in near-constant publication since 1963, and is still the most recognizable GL among comic fans (the glaring exception being the kids that came of age with JLU, but let's not open that can of worms). I'd definitely say he has a place amongst the premier pantheon.

He was the lead in the GL cartoon, appeared in several animated movies, is in a currently running all-ages cartoon...like, I get maybe not all of those portrayals are the most positive depiction of Hal and they're promoting John in the comics again, but they can't walk all that back in my opinion.

dc hasn't consistently treated hal well. it's frustrating everytime he get's sidelined. those parallax days were were dark times for me as a hal fan, although i still admire the art that was produced.
