My guess is they're hiding his identity because whoever he is meant to be a shock, and is also meant to mislead people into assuming it's Hal.

I don't know if the conflict is meant to be "Humans vs. Aliens" necessarily, so seeking aid from another alien wouldn't be a problem. The issue with the House of El seems to be their unjust imprisonment of metahumans, but maybe subsequent issues will make it good ol' fashioned xenophobia against aliens.

I dunno. That last issue leaned too hard on the "everyone is assholes" style of storytelling for my tastes, so I likely won't be around long enough to find out. Hopefully, the next issue is an improvement, because I love the art and setting.

My mind immediately leapt to Luthor, who has been conspicuously absent thus far. The Green Man could be powered by Kryptonite rather than Oan science.

Even if you like Venditti that would be his third GL series in 7 years so I understand why DC went meh on it.

I'm fine with not having Venditti write Hal anymore.

Yeah, Venditti had a lengthy GL run. I don't blame DC for wanting fresh eyes.

I'm so bad with time. Did not realize Venditti was on GL 7 years.

That kind of amazes me to be honest.

If it was a mini series for Hal, I would have liked to have seen it.

I enjoyed Venditti's run (loved his Hawkman to) but ultimately he couldn't keep the Green Lantern sales as high as Geoff Johns did, so it's probably why DC opted for Morrison or the current run....ironically for me, both of which I have not been able to get into.

I looked up the interview. Cool stuff on Hal from Morrison 31:30 onwards.

Always loved how Morrison is dismissive of the idea of "humanizing" Hal like other writers have tried in the past. They're like "Nah, this guy is just that good at his job and he knows it. You don't need to give him more personal problems to try to make the audience relate to him. He's just a chill dude who gets things done and that's what we'll show about him".

On a side-note I didn't know Morrison was talked into doing the second season of TGL, I knew about being talked into doing GL in general, but didn't know that was the case with season two as well. That probably shows why it's so much more bonkers than season one lol. DC pretty much gave them free reign and Morrison went all out on the "weird and experimental" as they put it.
