THE SIGNAL (Duke Thomas) is DC's secret shonen protagonist so I made him a fandom wiki
also, check out "The Signal Tape" a Duke Thomas fan project.
currently following:

- Marvel: TBD
- Manga (Shonen/Seinen): One Piece, My Hero, Dandadan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, Reincarnation of The Veteran Soldier, Oblivion Rouge, ORDEAL, The Breaker: Eternal Force
"power does not corrupt, power always reveals."
Oh my goodness! What is this beauty!?

bringing back this (frankly) iconic clip of Dwayne McDuffie. I feel this is still 100% the case, the language is just a little more obfuscated nowadays.

Absolutely.
I remember watching this clip a few years ago. There was so much I didn't know then that I do now. And it is indeed just as relevant now — if, like you said, more obfuscatorily presented — as it was when he said it, just at it was when it actually happened to him.
The "Rule of 3 Blacks" is something that really hurts. It's why we often can't have Black superheroes interacting with other Black characters in the superhero community, or see them gain multiple Black proteges and partners. If it does, just that 3rd Black character with any sort of prominence turns the whole product or story into "Black thing".
Reading List (Super behind but reading them nonetheless):
DC: Currently figuring that out
Marvel: Read above
Image: Killadelphia, Nightmare Blog
Other: The Antagonist, Something is Killing the Children, Avatar: TLAB
Manga: My Hero Academia, MHA: Vigilanties, Soul Eater: the Perfect Edition, Berserk, Hunter X Hunter, Witch Hat Atelier, Kaiju No. 8
At the moment I believe we have 7 led titles by African Americans
And it took putting a black man over DC for it to happen.
And it's characters that have forever dealt with push back in some cases (John Stewart, Duke Thomas) and others that just showed up (Jo and Jackson) and others forgotten (Nubia).
Meanwhile Vixen and Bumblebee and her husband are still nowhere to be seen. Along with milk cartons for Jason Rusch (that is NOT him in Bendis's JL book that is Ronnie and probably Stein since Ronnie's creator and Johns took Jason out).
Black Manta, Aqualad, Jace Fox, Nubia and Jo/John in Green Lantern. Which does count as the most DC has done since... Batwing, Static & Mr Terrific. That did not end well for 2 of those guys.
Milestone does not count. They tried that mess the last time.
Meanwhile Marvel at one point had Miles, Sam Wilson as Falcon and one as CA, Prowler, Black Panther, Moon Girl & Luke Cage at once. Toss in Shuri, Kilmonger, BO WOW, BP Crew and Riri.
At least 5-6 at once for awhile.
Image at one point-Spawn, Savage Dragon, Kick Azz, Bitter Root, Farmhands, Excellence, Motor Crush, Joot Joint (only 2 issues), Burnouts, Freeze & Ordinary Gods. As of right now it's 6 titles.
Could be because she is in space and her connection the Red/Tree of Life is much less potent there?
