    RECOMMENDATIONS

Avengers Defenders War -- arguably the first "event" at Marvel, this was an amazing battle of two of Marvel's biggest teams at that time.

    Defenders for a Day

Defenders Indefensible - While there's disagreement amongst Defenders fans about this book, I personally love it. It's a fun look at the Defenders.

Best Defense - an old school gathering of the old team, with a call back to one of the Defenders early foes. It was interesting to see how the four separate issues lead up to this meeting.

Unfortunately, the arrival of the New Universe and X-Factor brought an end to the Defenders and they appear to have missed the second volume of the Handbook.

But they did return for the '89 Update:

It's a new year, but sadly, we have no new Defenders ongoing. But it IS the 50th Anniversary of the Defenders and we are getting an omnibus with THREE covers! Perhaps that is a hint of future goodness for the Defenders in their anniversary year?

THE DEFENDERS OMNIBUS VOL. 1 HC
Written by ROY THOMAS, STEVE ENGLEHART & LEN WEIN with TONY ISABELLA, CHRIS CLAREMONT,
STAN LEE, STEVE DITKO, DENNIS O'NEIL & BILL EVERETT
Penciled by SAL BUSCEMA & ROSS ANDRU with BOB BROWN, GIL KANE, JIM STARLIN, JACK KIRBY
    & BILL EVERETT
Covers by JORGE MOLINA, NEAL ADAMS & GIL KANE
Doctor Strange, the Hulk, the Sub-Mariner, the Silver Surfer and Valkyrie! They are the dynamic Defenders, comics' greatest "non-team," and they do not rely on bylaws and butlers. They join together in moments of utmost crisis — to face incomprehensible enemies like Dormammu, the Nameless One and the Enchantress! But when the Defenders encounter heroes of a more conventional stripe, it's war — the watershed hero vs. hero Avengers/Defenders War, no less! This massive omnibus also sees Hawkeye, the Black Knight, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Nighthawk and Daimon Hellstrom join the Defenders in classic adventures. It's a must-have edition collecting Roy Thomas, Steve Englehart and Len Wein's complete DEFENDERS runs in one beautifully restored volume! Collecting SUB-MARINER (1968) #34-35, MARVEL FEATURE (1971) #1-3, DEFENDERS (1972) #1-19, GIANT-SIZE DEFENDERS #1-2, and AVENGERS (1963) #115 (B STORY) and #116-118.
    680 PGS./Rated T …$100.00

Yay Defenders! Yay 50 years! Happy New Year 2021 Defenders!

I sure hope a new ongoing will be possible but I want it with the old team and to have that feel that it did which made it work so well in-comic. It needs to have the characters correct personalities with some great new stories and of course terrific artwork.

I'd love to have another Defenders book, but I don't feel like Marcel is even hinting at it. Of course, TAROT was a surprise last year, so you never know. They are on a mini-series kick.

I was listening to a podcast with J.M. DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire, and they said they thought they were going to do another Defenders book, a sequel to Indefensible, but it didn't happen ... I think it was Marvel's decision, not theirs. That just makes me sad. LOVED Indefensible.

I hope they do something big and special for this, the 50th Anniversary! Even another new story with the original team will work for me.

?? In your listing of "New Defendes" between Manslaughter and Moondragon, you have Marvel Girl II as a member. I do not remember her being there.....

How strange. Who is Marvel Girl II? Will fix it. Thanks!

One can always hope. Especially considering how they are going out for Man-Thing. grrrr.

Defenders (original series) has long been one of my favorite series. I have the entire run from MARVEL FEATURE to the final issue of THE DEFENDERS.

I’m not sure that magic could be recaptured.

I think that's the case for many books. But Defenders even moreso, because it was such a quirky book. I have to give Marvel credit, though, they certainly have tried alot the last decade. Though some of those attempts were just using the name.
