I do think it is a great portrayal of classic Val. I think he even got Dragonfang right. But I LOVE her expression here.
Great pic of Val! Some of Artgerms female portrayals can be kind of cheescakey, but this one is fantastic. Dragonfang actually has a dragon's head carved at the end of the hilt.

While the sword shown only has a rounded end, instead of the original flat dragon head (can see some pics on page 1)which it should have and with the entire sword itself not being shown as an enchanted golden color, I still think it looks great overall.

LOL! How did I guess that?
Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?

I agree on both counts. His Val looks DETERMINED! A great cover. And Val really hasn't gotten a spotlight cover since the days of Fearless and Fearless Defenders.

Does anyone else wish that Kyle had kept his Squadron Sinister costume when he joined? I mean, the whole idea of the character was that he was a riff on Batman. I was thrilled when he signed up, only to have him ditch that cool outfit in favor of something I always found way too bright and garish.

I love the expression on Beast's face as he looks at the falling Moondragon. WTF? LOL!

I don't know. I never really thought of Kyle as a Batman riff, and the change in the costume probably contributed to that.

Yeah, I never thought of Kyle as Batman either. At the time, I was glad to say bye-bye to the dark threads and a more updated brighter costume.

Yeah! I prefered the brighter costume too. With those black buckaneer boots, the wierd mask with the large beak nose and the brown cape and black trunks and red belt, Kyle reminded me more of the Crime Syndicate villainous Owlman, original design, then of Batman (perhaps that was always the intent). I really liked it when they sleeked down the costume for the heroic Squadron Supreme bersion of Nighthawk. As for the Defenders Kyle, the original dark blue, yellow and red has always been a favorite of mine.

    Peace

I always loved when the hair covered her eye. That was lost in Perlin's never-ending run.

I agree. I think they purposely wanted to move him away from the gimmick of being a Batman clone. I, for one, had no idea he had his roots as a villain --- and was a Batman doppleganger until many years later.

The hair-one-eye was mostly up to the 50th issue of the original run. Occasionally after that we would see it, but not in the routine fashion that the first 50 gave it to us.
