Might as well add to the impressive art gallery in this thread with a faux cover of my own.

Taking nothing away from Pam Grier, whom I understand was the original muse for Monica's appearance, but my version of Monica was influenced by sportscaster/actress Jayne Kennedy and Phylicia Rashad going way, way, waaaaaaay back. To this day, I still find it hard to draw Monica without one of the two coming to mind.

Need help. Can anyone think of a black woman that was a contemporary of Conan or Red Sonja in the Hyborian Age? Other than Storm's ancestor, of course.

Don't know if this has been discussed before, but what does everyone think of Kevin Grevioux's Darkstorm comics?

These books were canceled either because of low sales, predetermined limited publication format, or changes in Marvel's priorities.

I hate to generalize here, but I think it's rather obvious that Marvel isn't the NBA. You can't have a team book featuring an all afrocentric cast of characters, or any all non-white ethnicity for that matter. That's just not how Marvel's readership rolls. And it's not necessarily about SJW adverse blowback. The Crew wasn't about racism or social justice themes at all. It had one of the best writers in the industry and two of the most popular characters in all of comics in BP and Storm. It was cancelled due to low sales. Maybe in the distant future a book like BP and the Crew can go the distance with Marvel's base willing to give it a try. But I wouldn't bet on it.
Coates is no where near the best writer in the industry, not even remotely close. He's not even a good fiction writer. Nonfiction? Sure he is good there. Fiction and comics? Subpar
