But I'd definitely like to see Monica develop her friendships with other characters like Wanda, but that requires her being on a major Avengers roster and being given genuine character work.

Like I said, that already happened. When Monica first joined the Avengers, Scarlet Witch was on the team way back when. She-Hulk was there, too, and Jan rejoined the team, somewhat later. You'd think Monica would have a more lasting connection with one of the three.

As for Carol, if you pressed her about it, she'd say that she had more of a right to the mantle; Monica was just casually borrowing the name. Hardly a shared thing. I mean that is why Carol took the name, right, without first letting Monica know as a friendly courtesy, if nothing else? There's really no reason for Monica and Carol to be BFFs due to the mantle. If anything, that little bit of shadiness from Carol would be reason enough for Monica not to really trust her that deeply now that she knows how Carol moves. Monica will always be the bigger person, but don't mistake that for her being a fool.

If this was Monica from the past, you never know. She had enough power to get Zeus' attention back then, but we've seen a much, much, much more powerful version of Monica after Blue Marvel tweaked her molecular structure. Zeus and the entire complement of Olympian gods couldn't handle Nyx, but future Monica was holding her own.

I hope that Monica's mother can be in Captain Marvel 2 as well as some kind of Marvel Plus series to explore what goes on in her time era. It would be a mistake to just ignore a talented actress like Lashana Lynch.

Is that the one that reprints her first appearance, as well as the Avengers issue where she joins the team (iirc) and other stories, including the Solo Avengers story where she gave up the Captain Marvel name? If so, if you've never read any of those stories it's worth getting at the right price.

Based on the listing (above-with a preview!)of the stories in it, its a mixed bag. Decent enough though. The CAPTAIN MARVEL one-shots were kind of perfunctory in order to maintain the copyright. Not too compelling but super competent executed to keep Monica's story going after she was written out of AVENGERS post- Roger Stern. The MARVEL FANFARE stuff is pretty good since that was a prestige outlet for standalone tales. I *do* hope they correct making Marie Laveau a white woman. The part of the story that Monica, a New Orleanean, didn't know who Laveau was offensive to begin with, but then to make Marie a non-Creole woman is salt in the wound.

Comics colorists and/or their printing presses have always had a hard time of getting the skin tones of multi-racial characters right. It's either vanilla or coffee bean and that's it. I was hoping Marie Laveau would become a mainstay in Monica's lore. Maybe not always adversarial, but a character that could push Monica.

She doesn't remember herself, was ignominiously flung out of the Wandaverse, what do you expect?

And she appears to be stuck in a 1950s simulation. Not exactly the best of times, even if it is the result of reality warping.

Captain Marvel is to come back from that with relative ease.
