DC is adding pointless characters but not at all growing the demand for more product.

It...really is a strategy that doesn't make sense and isn't working. And I'm not saying that just to be critical...it"s just true.

Guys like Johns and Bendis were probably looking for more of those royalty checks, so I think their personal gains didn't really coincide with what was healthy for GL in the long run.

I suppose the only way the strategy makes any sense is if DC is trying to hit every single demographic possible when or if it adapts GL to something else. That's still dumb because it is coming at the cost of misguidedly watering the IP down, thus making it less and less apealing. And it's unnecessary when DC has gajillions of IPs. They don't need to dump all this stuff into GL.
I think, if you look at this run, you'll find zero new human lanterns have been added and thousands of aliens have been taken off the board, permanently. At least one has changed colors and two (or four, depending on how you count) are missing in action. One has been de-powered. Keli is no more a part of the GLC than Alan Scott or Jade.

Hal - Officially MIA but we know he's okay.
John - Officially MIA but we know he's okay.
    Guy - MIA
    Kyle - MIA
    Simon - Injured, de-powered.
Jessica - Now a Yellow Lantern (wait for the annual. Damn.)
Jo - Still active, trying to hold things together.

Thousands of lanterns, some longtime faves, are missing, injured, stranded or dead. Thousands.

I can't (and won't) speak to how things were but I wasn't brought in to maintain the status quo.

    No one is safe.

I’m enjoying your GL book Redjack, but I hope you also get to do that John Stewart mini you initially pitched, as a Black Label book. Something standalone that I can hand to any John Stewart fan who wants to read something focused on him. We need more stories focused solely on John.

Here is the thing Redjack did not do that. That was folks before him-who you need to call out. He can only do what he is given or allowed to do.

Yes there are gazillion of IPS-WHOSE fault is it they are NOT being used???

Thanks for taking the time and speaking with us fans, Redjack.

I'm sure most here, including myself are aware that some of these decisions are mandated. Because I do remember you mentioning how your pitch to DC was solely about John Stewart.

With that said, I have been enjoying the book thus far. As I said earlier, your handling with the other characters are good in the recent issue. I hope that John figures out a solution and get his powers back soon lol.

I'm looking forward to see what more plans DC has for John.

Why are you acting like I accused him? The only entities I mentioned were DC, which is a company, and Johns and Bendis, who I feel created extraneous characters, but the company obviously signed off on them.

I'm going to go out of my way and say that I agree with this when it comes to creating all of these characters.

I say this, because believe it or not, it undermines existing human Green Lanterns. It makes the existing ones less special and less unique. The only human GL character it doesn't really undermine as much is Kyle Rayner, because he was specifically chosen for great spirit.

In the current DCU, I feel like almost any human can have willpower as great as these current GL characters. It's coming to a point where it feels like you won a lottery when a ring comes to you. It's starting to feel that common. I just don't see the uniqueness there anymore. I'm really surprised that DC allowed this to happen for years.

I think that's why Redjack mentioned the status quo changes above. It looks like this is an issue others recognize and is being addressed.

I said this elsewhere, but the situation with the GLs is an example of how “anyone can wear the mask” can go wrong. You can’t just keep piling on OCs into a franchise because it fractures the fanbase, and everyone wants to see “their” GL take center stage and refuses to support the rest. What we have now with John potentially getting his Guardian powers back, and Hal and Jo as GLs is close to my ideal (I would have Jess over Jo and I would’ve had John keep his ring), but we’ll see how long this can last.

Still enjoying the ride for now.

I feel like four was manageable (not counting Alan), six is a bit much, and now 8-9 is just getting kind of hectic.

At this point it's probably impossible to please everybody.

Well the secret is that it was always impossible.

Yea, I remember a while back I was speculating whether that was the reason why the editors wanted the exploded battery plot as a way to change the status quo of the GL franchise.

I mean, so far, honor guards no longer exist, no GL ranks, 1200 sectors being vacated under the United Planets, etc.

Sometimes I wonder whether some of these human GL's who lost their powers will ever be GLs again. I remember Redjack said in an interview that we'll see more of Kyle Rayner, but it'll be so bad until you would wish that he was dead or something like that.

    It's definitely a bumpy ride.

He wasn't kidding around when he said no one is safe.
