as much as I'm fascinated by and an advocate for the tattoo ring/power ring physiology, I'd be satisfied if they just explain it away and go back to the standard ring at this point. they squandered the potential that concept could've had by making it all the way through Death Metal without ever explaining or fleshing it out. at this point I'd rather they at least stop insulting our intelligence and just actively undo it.

I understand the frustration, but I think it would be a PERFECT time to explain the reasoning behind John's tattoo ring, now that John Stewart has his own ongoing series (man, it feels good saying that). There was just too much going on in Death Metal and then you have so many characters crammed in that event to the point where it would've been a little difficult for them explaining it. By John having his own solo now, it gives the writer more freedom to tell the story about John's tattoo ring. Perhaps, it was probably a good thing that they didn't expand that story in Scott Snyder's run and save it for his own book.
