I love it, too. It's by Dauterman, who, in my opinion, draws Jean the best.

Also, if you all are interested, I recently started a Twitter account dedicated to covering Jean's development. I started a thread, which I've pinned to the top of my profile, that specifically focuses on the development of her powers, replete with screenshots of pivotal pages and panels. I'll attempt to post a link below.

I have some thoughts and opinions I would like to share, too, but I'm still making my way through the thread (I'm at page 54), so I'll wait until I'm done or close to done. Nice to meet you all!

Also, for the lit and poetry geeks, I was recently rereading "Lady Lazarus" by Sylvia Plath and was reminded of how I used to associate that poem with Jean in my youth:

    Lady Lazarus

    I have done it again.
    One year in every ten
    I manage it——

    A sort of walking miracle...

    Soon, soon the flesh
The grave cave ate will be
    At home on me

    And I a smiling woman.
    I am only thirty.
And like the cat I have nine times to die.

    This is Number Three.
    What a trash
    To annihilate each decade.

    What a million filaments.
    The peanut-crunching crowd
    Shoves in to see

Them unwrap me hand and foot——
    The big strip tease.
    Gentlemen, ladies

    These are my hands
    My knees.
I may be skin and bone,

Nevertheless, I am the same, identical woman.
The first time it happened I was ten.
    It was an accident.

    The second time I meant
To last it out and not come back at all.
    I rocked shut

    As a seashell.
They had to call and call
And pick the worms off me like sticky pearls.

    Dying
Is an art, like everything else.
    I do it exceptionally well.

I do it so it feels like hell.
I do it so it feels real.
I guess you could say I’ve a call.

It’s easy enough to do it in a cell.
It’s easy enough to do it and stay put.
    It’s the theatrical

    Comeback in broad day
To the same place, the same face, the same brute
    Amused shout:

    ‘A miracle!’
    That knocks me out.
    There is a charge

For the eyeing of my scars, there is a charge
For the hearing of my heart——
    It really goes.

And there is a charge, a very large charge
For a word or a touch
    Or a bit of blood

Or a piece of my hair or my clothes.
    So, so, Herr Doktor.
    So, Herr Enemy.

    I am your opus,
    I am your valuable,
    The pure gold baby

    That melts to a shriek.
    I turn and burn.
Do not think I underestimate your great concern.

    Ash, ash—
    You poke and stir.
Flesh, bone, there is nothing there——

    A cake of soap,
    A wedding ring,
    A gold filling.

    Herr God, Herr Lucifer
    Beware
    Beware.

    Out of the ash
I rise with my red hair
And I eat men like air.

    Nice Twitter!

    Nice to meet you too.

The issue #2 where Jean Telekinetically lifts 6 adult women across the street and up on the Movie marquee level (600-800 pounds) is why I stated a few pages back that it was ridiculous that storm asked Jean if she needed help during the Proteus Saga lifting 5 men (approximately 1000 pounds). If Jean at her "weakest" could do the 600-800, then Jean at her strongest as Phoenix could do the 1000 regardless of what happened previously or not. Period.

Even in issue one, when she hurls an active missile into the ocean, she displays impressive telekinetic power and control. As long as I've been a Jean fan, I have learned, or relearned, just how powerful she was early on. I mean, check out what she does in issue #35/#36 (don't remember which one):

Yes, Jean was always a powerhouse.

Those steel girders are most likely a minimum of 400 pounds EACH and we see 3 of them being not only moved but held in place in mid-air which is even harder! Jean is NOT straining and easily talking while moving them. Jean is also atop the structure of girders and most likely levitated herself up there.

Steel beams, especially for buildings, weigh closer to 1,000 lbs. each. So, her feat in those panels is stunning.

Also, I’m currently recapping the Phoenix era - pre-Dark Phoenix - in the Twitter thread I posted above, and, ironically enough, it was Claremont (the exact panel is in the thread) who first had Scott refer to Jean as “once the weakest member.” I had not seen her referred to that until then.

Another feat which stunned me during the first 66-issue run was her stopping Quicksilver mid-run (!!!) twice and holding him in place in the air. Frankly, her first demidecade in comics is severely underrated. Working on this project has made me fall in love with her even more.

    .
Quite true. I was going to post 800-1000 pounds each, but decided to go with the lightest weight beams for our "fanenemies" who would probably want to downgrade this powerstunt. (Some of them may even have a Jean avatar but are really not for her and much prefer other characters).

But look at Jean go lifting 3,000 pounds like it was nothing!

She also topples and holds back Sentinels, and anchors a hot-air balloon edging towards the stratosphere- with the team on it - to earth!

Also did anyone notice her peeling an apple with her TK? What a convenient use of her power!

With time, I started to appreciate her Marvel Girl costume. It's simple, yet effective. The only thing that ruins this look is the mask - it just looks ugly and needs to go.
