I confess I can't say im a fan of the Vanessa Silver Swan at all.
Putting aside the fact that the current iteration of Vanessa as Silver Swan is someone who has no history with Diana and whose sole connection to Diana is being paralyzed and her mother killed as collateral damage in a fight Wonder Woman had making any significance of her in that role utterly non existent and giving her less of a connection to Wonder Woman than say, Giganta or Doctor Poison.

Theres also the fact that its just a cherry on top to establish Vanessas life as being a conga line of misfortune ever since Wonder Woman enterered her life, and making her the poster child of why superheroes not having a secret identity is a terrible idea that only causes misfortune to those around them.

The very first time we see her shes being aged to death by Decay because Diana was moving into her house.
She gets targeted continuously by villains because she is close to Diana
Doctor Psycho makes her his pet projects and invests his time making Vanessas life hell for nearly half her lifespan with a constant plague of living nightmares
She goes through PTSD and goes into a despondant state of depression for years because Wonder Woman is thought dead
She gets targeted by a seedy asshat who grooms the girl half his age and turns her into a supervillain.
Shes snapped out of it and on the road to recovery before a second supervillain decides to scoop her up and re-turn her into a supervillain

and pretty much every negative thing thats happened in her life is because Wonder Woman entered her life and made no secret about that fact.

Maybe keep her as the Swan but make her a hero like Valerie was for a hot minute?
Yes but the whole reason she became Silver Swan was because of Psycho, it wasn’t her own doing in the least (if writers care to remember that ).
So Diana reforming Silver Swan in the manner she did in #750 could easily be a band-aid approach and all that has to happen is Pycho showing back up into her life and flip a switch with is powers to brainwashing her again.

Julia got to be the bad-ass while Venessa got to be the victim.

And it was strange she never became Wonder Girl.

Also if people are wondering why Jimenez turned Venessa into SS, it was for the drama of corse.

I imagine if Perez stayed on longer he would have setup Vanessa to become a Wonder Girl. Especially with how when Cassie and Helena were first introduced they were pretty much photo copies of Vanessa and Julia.

Maybe in some alternate universe, Cassie's Silver Swan while Vanessa's Wonder Girl.

Im honestly quite skeptical that Perez had any such grandiose plans for Vanessa. Nothing about how she was being built up in his run ever really suggested a grander intent for her unlike Julia being established as an adopted Amazon since her youth who possessed a psychic connection to Amazon kind.

I'd say Artemis fills the "Red Hood" niche of Wonder Woman characters.

That's a good comparison. Perhaps Vanessa is more along the lines of Harley Quinn or Poison Ivy.

Warrior Woman writers have been chasing and failing to top that WW vs. Medusa fight for almost 20 years by this point.
I think you all call stuff "cheesecake" anytime a woman is reasonably attractive. Medusa wasn't drawn to entice, she was drawn to evoke her power.

Considering Drew Johnson's work I'm pretty sure she was drawn to entice. I mean, you saw what outfit he put Ares in, right?

And Circe but that's completely in-character for something like her to wear.

No wonder she and Ares hooked up.

What? A black shirt and black pants, even if they're leather, so what? Kanye West has worn umpteen black leather outfits and didn't look sexy worth a damn.

The fact that Johnson draws Ares as conventionally attractive with an unbuttoned shirt in every panel he's not wearing his armor is what I'm getting at.

I know, it's just that Drew Johnson is in my "Top Five Favorite Wonder Woman Artists" and it bothers me when his work is belittled or dismissed. He's got a keen fashion sense and maybe some of his designs can be seen as sexier than what is currently deemed acceptable, but he's hardly Ed Benes. He's the guy that also came up with the looks for Veronica Cale, Ferdinand and Io, so he's not always drawing from his loins.

What gets me is we all can gush over shirtless Steve or Siggy's perfect form, but when JG Jones draws some cleavage it's dismissed as "porn". From my point of view that's reductive and hypocritical but obviously your mileage may vary.

No, Drew Johnson is no-where near the level of Ed Benes, Greg Land, ect. and I'm not dissing his work since I also like his art. His Medusa design just has some of the tropic elements of lady wearing "armor" which protects nothing and looks uncomfortable as heck (I think he's going for a snake's belly with the design?), so the cheesecake astatic is there, especially when you compare her likeness to the classical Greek depiction of a Gorgon where they had boar tusks.
