I hope that Xavin appears, but that would be a long shot.

Continuity, even in a "shared" comics universe is often insignificant if not largely detrimental to the quality of a comic.

    Runaways #36 (Legacy #98) Spoilers.

    spoilers:
Flashback to before Wolverine showed up, but after the J-Team situation went down. Chase Stein goes to Haul Mart to talk to Van, and ask for her number. Chase leaves Haul Mart, and the preview pages commence. This is a 21 year old Gert from the future who wants to bring Chase to the future for unexplained reasons, color me disappointed that this does not appear to be the Gert from the third series. They make out. Back to the present Victor, and present Gert walk home from school after not being picked up. It's relationship stuff mostly. They arrive near the Hostel at the right time, and place to witness the kiss from the last issue. Final page is Future Gert, and Chase shocked to see Present Gert, and Victor having seen them kiss. Karolina, Nico, Molly, Doombot, Rufus, and Gib do not appear.

Future Gert is the only one not shocked. Her line upon seeing her younger self and Victor is simply to say "Victor."

I suspect Victor is part of whatever Future Gert isn't telling Chase.

    spoilers:
I mean the very fact that she went back in time means that this is no longer her past. It's comics, it's time travel, it's not going to resemble anything approximating sense. Let's not sweat the details.

So.....future Gert is a supervillain right? The whole foreshadowing from present Gert about not having power means she can never be a hero or villain. Future Gert being shocked to see Victor because she killed him when he was trying to be hero.

Could be. She didn't really seem shocked though. No exclamation point. Hers is just a statement. It almost came across as resigned, or terse. Like she knew this was a thing that could happen and she's been bracing for it. She definitely seems to be in a hurry to get Chase out of the present. I'm wondering if some combination of Victor and Chase ends really badly. Maybe Victor goes evil again, or the two guys get in a fight over her or something. And one of them ends up dead. I almost got the vibe that she lost Victor in her future somehow, either to death or villainy, and these actions are a response to it.

Alternatively, this could be about neither guy, and she's actually messing with her past self somehow in all this. Maybe this moment of getting caught with Chase was the whole point? That she's trying to steer her past in some way, and is using Chase as a pawn? I feel like this being about one of the two men in her life is too trite and cliche. And that Gert is trying to alter her own past in some meaningful way by playing the two off against one another. I'm curious what Rowell has in store for the next issue.

It's nice to see some of the Runaways featured prominently in an anthology. Even nicer that there's going to be a variant cover. Hopefully it ends up being a solid read.

This is the first issue of Runaways I've picked up and enjoyed in awhile. I was really hoping they would revisit this triangle (which I guess might be considered a square now? Or not? How does that work with future versions of yourself?). Chase and Gert are probably two of my favorite characters in this book. For me, the book was losing steam right up until J-Team and that's when I dropped the book entirely. But this one really brought me back. IMHO, Runaways works best when the superheroics add texture to their personal lives and not the other way around.
Keep in mind that you have about as much chance of changing my mind as I do of changing yours.

Or vice versa, this could be future Avenger Gert, who fought evil Victorious in the future. (And Gert could get 'power' at least in the sense of future-tech stashed around by her time-travelling parents, which would at least put her on par with other tech/gear based Avengers like Hawkeye or Iron Man. My personal wish would be for her to get some sort of future-enhancement that allows her to inject poison with a touch, because then she could be Arsenic, teamed up with Old Lace.)

I'm not betting on this future Gert being tied into anything except Rowell's own stories for the most part. I don't think she has anything to do with the Victorious future or that she's Heroine. She certainly isn't the Gert from from the third series, which is incredibly disappointing.

I had a feeling for a while that she was gonna do some time-travel shennanigans so that Gert could be with Chase. And I guess the younger Gert can be with Victor at the same time so everyone can get their cake and eat it lol.
